Default Cold Air intakes

Talk to me about them. Worth it? Any performance, sound, and/or mpg improvement? What about water issues (exposed filter and puddles bad for engines, do you have to buy a cover for them?)

Easy to install?

Which kit do people recommended?

AFE intake has noticeable power gains. 2mpg improvement and very easy to install.

So this isn't a myth then?

What brand is everyone going with? I like the Volant ones because they appear to be closed in and more protected as a result, but also more expensive.

I went with the AFE because it's open and was getting the RK Sport functional hood, however these gains were with the factory hood...... More noticeable power gains with RK Sport hood. Will check MPG this weekend.

Are you worried about water getting in it or not? I like the look of the open ones, but am worried about the possibility of hydrolock.

No, the factory hood is sealed enough where you aren't getting water in there.

I went with the KN&N (Auto Anything had it on sale). Easy install with heat shield. Great sound improvement (without being obnoxious). A bit of performance improvement (as seen by the butt-dyno). Haven't noticed any MPG increase, but I spend a lot of time in Tampa traffic, don't think anything could improve MPG's in that kind of driving... :P

Based on the limited research I've done, your account is pretty much on par with others. Better sound, some increased performance (acceleration mostly), but not a noticeable increase in mpgs with the K&N.

The Volants on the other hand have reviewers that say they do notice an MPG increase.

Just pulled the trigger on a $201 K&N 77 series from autoanything. Went with that because, well, I like shiny things.

I bought my AFE for $260 from Auto Accessories Garage.... Called them and they hooked me up on the price!
