Default Alternator Recall News

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/chrysl...115231539.html

Chrysler, a unit of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, is recalling about 470,000 cars and SUVs globally from model years 2011 through 2014 and equipped with a 3.6 liter engine and a 160 amp alternator, according to the company and documents filed with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The alternator may suddenly fail, possibly causing a stall or fire and increasing the risk of a crash, according to the NHTSA documents

Wondering if most or all alternator issues are with the 160 amp alternator. I have the towing package and heavier duty alternator in my '11 Crew (I think 220 amp output) and have not had an issue with mine (56,000 miles). Anyone with the tow package alternator experienced issues with their's failing? Just curious.

Default Question

My 2012 Durango alternator was replaced this summer while on vacation. With the recall I will be getting the money back.

However, since the recall is up to 2014 is the alternator I currently have one of the bad ones? If it is, would it be replaced?

Thanks

Claus Graf

Anyone know when the official recall goes out? I believe it was due by the end of November. I had mine replaced in April, and wanted to get resolution on it as well as the other recalls i've been holding out on.

You say it as if getting any of the recall work done is even an option. My dealer just about laughed when I asked about getting recall service done. The parts they need for this must be about as readily available as unicorn poop. They told me I'm on a wait list for the brake recall components. Yeah right. Expecting the call any day.
