Ok so I could def hear the whining noise through the rod when it was in the alternator. How do I know if it's the bearings or do I have to replace the entire alternator?
Thanks y'all!

Steve is correct. If the alternator bearing is causing the noise. You replace the alternator.

I had a 2007 Durango that made a high pitched sound only sometimes, but when it started, the sound didn't go away until I turned off the truck. After 3 years of bringing the truck in for service and having them try to find it, the issue was finally found (fortunately about 500 miles before the end of the warranty).

The issue was a bad water pump.

Keep your receipt. Recall may possibly cover this repair.
