Default 2013 Sterring wheel vibration

Hello All,

Yes this subject again. My own 2014 Citadel V8 is perfect in every way, but a friends 2013 Citadel V8 has a steering wheel vibration from day one. This occurs at highway speeds. Wheels balanced, tires swapped, the dealer even swapped out the water pump (I am still trying to figure out that one...)

I know this was heavily documented on this forum, but never saw a solution. As the dealer is being totally useless, I am thinking of swapping out the draft shaft linkages in desperation. (U Bolts)

Anybody got any ideas before my friend's Durango goes in for "surgery"

Any help very much appreciated!

I know many will suggest road force balancing which may fix it, but I would check:
1) How true the factory (made in China) wheels are, and
2) How "round" the tires are.
I had issues with balancing on a former car and it turned out that one Good Year tire was over .040" out of round. On a RAM truck I owned one of the factory wheels was not true.

Hello everyone... I'm having the same issue with the vibrating steering wheel at highway speeds on my 2013 citadel hemi. Tires balanced and rotates but never heard anything with the water pump!?! Also sometimes when turning I hear like a screeching noise... It's not often but noticeable

Rotors can be out of balance as well. Need a road-force # and u can warranty the stock Goodyears if they are bad,

DooMz,

Welcome to the forum! I'm sorry to hear about your concern.

There is a TSB that may be related to your concern. I recommend bringing your vehicle to an FCA dealership and referencing this TSB.

TSB 22-001-14 REV. A

SUBJECT:
Steering Wheel Vibration Diagnostic Procedure

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves road testing, tire balance measuring, road force variation and flat
spotting removal.

DISCUSSION:
NOTE: The respective tire manufacturer is responsible for any “tire defects”.

VISUAL INSPECTION:
Visual inspection of the vehicle is recommended prior to road testing or performing any
other procedure. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to the detailed service procedures
available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 04 - Vehicle Quick
Reference/Hoisting - Standard Procedure.
Inspect for the following:
• Verify correct (OEM) wheel and tire, as well as presence of wheel weights.
• Inspect tires and wheels for damage, mud packing and unusual wear; correct as
necessary.
• Check and adjust tire air pressure to the pressure listed on the label attached to the
driver's door opening.

I had the same issue and went the the route with Goodyear and they offered a considerable $$ credit toward a new set of tires @24k for the same vibration issue. Great information but only applies to stock wheels and original tires

You never mentioned if you were still using the stock wheels or not. I know I had a bad vibration when I switched to my aftermarket wheels. Fought it for a while then realized the hub size on my aftermarket wheels was 75mm but the hub on the D is 71.5mm. So...I bought a set of hub-centric rings, put them on and wala...no vibration what so ever. Again, ignore if you are still rolling on stockers as I believe they are hub centric wheels (the right size)...

I have had this issue from day one which was nearly 4 years and 90,000 miles ago. Stock wheels came with Khumo tires and the steering wheel would shake around 70 mph. Now I have 22' wheels with Nitto tires and the shake is around 63 mph. Somedays it's just a vibration other days it's an all out shudder then goes away as I change speed.

PS: The head mechanic at my local dealership is a good friend and co-owner with me of a chump car and he can't figure it out either. Thinks it may be cupped tires and I have a set of Conti's ordered.

At 33k by '12 D had terrible shake. New tires and fixed the steering leak and it's completely gone.

Michelin LTX MS2 finest tires you can buy.

I'll vouch for this LTX's. I had them in my Ridgeline before buying the Durango. Zero problems.

Currently have them on my K9 truck and they've done everything I've asked them to on and off road. High speed pursuits and crashing through rutted out two tracks.

BFG Mud Terrains? Another story. 2 blowouts that shredded my wheel wells.
