2012 not starting sometimes
this plug in bypass from Jason at Vertical Visions is the simplest solution I have found (pic below). For anyone with a 2012 that is having starting issues but isn't covered under the current P54 recall, this is possibly the best ~$26 you can invest in your D.
this is quick, simple, and doesn't require any cutting of wires. I drove around for about 4 weeks using this. zero starting issues. I did discover that the Remote Start sequence is a special sequence and draws power in a way that this does not work.
However, Jason's plug in jumper is a 'piggy-back' jumper that allows the fuel pump relay to draw power from BOTH the fuel pump relay and the donor relay at the same time.
for me, I found that once I started using Jason's bypass, my starting issues went away completely, including during Remote Start. maybe it was because my TIPM relay was only starting to fail and having the power from the additional relay took the strain off of it. or maybe I was just lucky. but I drove with zero issues until the local dealer had the parts to do the recall on my TIPM.

Slowly over the last year the starting problem has gotten worse. It is to the point now where once a day it will start then die.
I can give it gas and will rev to 3-4k rpm and after about 1 second it dies.
I have removed Vertical Visions part to see if that made any impact and I still get the car not starting.
My guess is its now time to pay the Diagnostic fee and let it sit for a few days at the dealer.
