Default Leaking struts

2012 Durango with 32,000 miles. At my last oil change, the dealer noted that the front struts were leaking and need replacement, however they are on back-order with no ETA.

Is 32K miles within the norm for strut replacement? Also how urgent is it to have it replaced once it leaks?

Just wondering if anyone else has had similar strut issues. Thanks!

I would expect them to last 75k-100k before needing replaced.

I've got the same issue, but just on the drivers side. Struts must have been crap from the factory...

Did you have them replaced by the dealer? Was the part in stock?

I think it's a good idea for all new owners to have them checked just before the bumper to bumper warranty expires.

On my 2013 Citadel, one of my struts started leaking at 16,800 miles. Dealer replaced both.

Super common issue unfortunately. That's why you're seeing them on backorder. Had my rear ones replaced this past summer. Waited 4 months for the dealer to get the part in. Not a serious issue if you keep driving on them, just take it easy and avoid any big bumps or holes and you should be fine.

Keep in mind that an underperforming shock or strut (especially in the front) will affect braking distance and handling so be aware of that when driving and you'll be fine. Probably will need an alignment when you get it fixed, but that should be something that the dealer does automatically.
