Port the Sub !
#12
Ah, Yes,
I was doing all kinds of sound testing yesterday. I didn't cut a hole through the carpet floor yet, only through the ALPINE rubber area.
We went on a small trip and I had to lay the carpet floor section in place for our luggage, and I was still amazed at the sound of the Subwoofer !.... still more powerful base and deeper. (The underside of the carpet floor has about 1" clearance to the top of the port, so that air is allowed to escape).
Yesterday I did tons of sound samples, with the floor up and with the floor down, replaying the same songs and I swear I can't hear much difference. So I think I may be leaving it, so as to not have a hole/grill through the carpet area. (stock look).
As of now, Porting the Sub seems to be the key to better performance and more efficiency, not so much terminating it in the Cabin. I've lowered the Base about 2 notches, so this takes some stress off all the other speakers.

Maybe, simple enough to test, but I'm already not hearing a big difference with the carpet hinged up and port exposed, so I can predict the jack door won't make much difference.
I'm still amazed at the Subwoofer sound with the carpet lid down ! I'd HIGHLY recommend anyone wanting more Base to go this route first....it may satisfy you, without any cosmetic alterations, removing door panels, intruding in storage space, etc. All that is Win/Win.
Also,
The carpet lid has a strap with a plastic hook. This could be easy to keep the lid up, but I couldn't figure out where the hook goes....I looked all around the rear area, nothing that equals the strap length.

you can't just drill holes. That's not how a port works. It needs to have a certain length of tube protruding into the interior of the sub enclosure. The length of the tube determines the frequency tuning.
