Default Warped Rotors

So I was just at the dealership to have the DD checked out. When I brake the steering wheel starts to vibrate. I was told that the rotors have warped and that a complete set pads/rotors is required to resolve the issue. The DD is about a year and 19K miles old.

I am little surprised the rotors would warp so soon. Most of the mileage on the DD has been highway miles.

Anyone else had an issue with rotors warping so soon. Plenty of brake pad left.

Highway driving, warp rotors - not unless the driving is constantly stop-and-go or you are a 2-feet driver, right foot on the gas pedal while applying pressure (no matter how slight) on the brake pedal with your left foot. You should push for the dealer to find the root cause for the warp rotors and perform the repair under warranty - you could have one or more defective calipers, in which case they should replace the defective rotor, pads and caliper. Did only one rotor warp or both? You should have also noticed a burning smell due to the overheated rotor(s), which caused them to warp.

You'll also want to carefully inspect the surfaces where the rotor and hub mate. It doesn't take much of a rock or piece of rust sandwiched in there to cause the steering wheel to shake on braking. Since the rotors are vented rust can easily drop down between the hub and rotor when the rotors are being reinstalled.

Did this vibration in the steering happen shortly after having the truck serviced that would have involved removing the wheels?

They are saying only the fronts correct? Have you ever got the rotors real hot? Mt driving? Buy them and do it you self. Napa makes some great rotors and pads. $150 -$175 job.

Too many people don't realize that going through a 2 inch deep puddle after being in stop and go traffic can cost $100's almost instantly. When it's raining or just after never ride in the curb side lane.

I needed rotors at about 30,000 miles and at 50,000 I'm starting to get the vibration again. I do tow a heavy trailer sometimes and thought maybe I didn't have a new trailer's brakes dialed in at first, but that's not the case this time around. I was wondering if there's a better rotor than OEM out there.

Interesting. Car and Driver and other car mags, including myself have been nothing but impressed with the stock brakes. Maybe like others said, it is an issue with something between the rotor hat and the wheel hub. If the hub has corrosion or a defect it will end up wrecking the rotors in short time.

There is also a school of thought that incorrect sequencing and uneven torqueing of the lug nuts can affect the rotors.....

I don't allow shops to use air tools to tighten lug nut; I always request they do it manually with a torque wrench to the factory specified torque.

Had my front breaks rotors replace with 28,000 on the OD on my 2013 R/T.

Thinking they used the same crap they had on the Journey's. I say this since I had a 2010 Journey R/T before this Durango and had 6 set's of pad's rotors and calibers replaced all before 65,000 on the OD when I traded it in for this Junk box.

Just something to think about!
