Default 2013 Stalling After Start - Pt. 2

Hi All,

So I had the fuel pump relay TSB done. My key fob batteries (both fobs) are new. My truck still has the following issue upon start up:

Push Start
Starter Cycles
Engine Catches & Revs
Engine Stalls

Push Start Again After Stall
Starter Cycles But Doesn't Catch
Push Start To Release
Push Start Again
Engine Catches & Revs
All Is Good

Dealer checks, no error codes. Many fill ups from different gas stations. Since problem is intermittent with no code, dealer can't address.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Any messages in the MFD (Multi Function Display)?
Does this happen with both fobs or just 1?
Was the recall installed properly? Since this is a splice into the TIPM?

Write up for the 2011 Fuel Pump Recall http://www.wk2jeeps.com/tsb/rc_P5414.pdf

MFD is clear. Dealer checked as well, no codes.

Happens with both fobs.

No idea if the TSB was done correctly. I don't think the relay is the issue as the stall is on start up only and corrects on restart. Relay issue wouldn't be as regimented.

I'm thinking injectors???

This is exactly what my 3.6L did before my dealer did the TIPM bypass.

I was on vacation when this started, out of town. I would press the button and get the engine computer to RUN (without starting) and then turned it to OFF again. I'd do this 3-4 times (like priming the fuel system) and then I could get it to start up and catch.

If I didn't do that it would crank (no fire) until I turned it off then 2-3 attempts later would fire the engine for a few seconds and die immediately like it was flooded.

Hate to say I told you so......

I've had the exact same problem and the fuel pump relay replacement did not cure it. The only thing that seems to have worked is using the fob as a key instead of using the pushbutton. I did that for two months and never had a false start.

If you will try that and get the same results, we can work together of getting Dodge find the problem.

harv1234 and Waynead,

Have you taken your vehicles back to the dealership to make them aware that this concern is still occurring? They may be able to perform further diagnosis if the original repair did not correct this.

I'm taking it back in later this week however I've been very unimpressed with Dodge's inability to solve any issue that isn't identified by an error code.

Waynead - I'll try the fob/key for the next few days and see if it works. I expect you mean using the fob to push on the start button as there is no actual "key" that you can use to start the vehicle?

On my 2012 you remove the pushbutton and insert the fob and turn it like a key.

DodgeCares- The dealer has never been able to replicate the problem, so I've been left hanging.

The dealership will definitely need to be able to replicate the symptom in order to properly diagnose and/or repair. If it's possible for you to demonstrate it occurring for your dealership, I encourage you to bring it back in to show them, but I know that can be tricky when it only occurs intermittently.
