Default Center console under dash light

So, in front of the shifter and cup holders, down where the cigarette lighter is there is a small light that shines down on that area. Mine has stopped working so I have a couple questions.

#1 Does anybody know if that is an LED or an actual filament light bulb?

#2 I have the lifetime warranty and I know it does not cover light bulbs, but if that were an LED does anyone know if that would be covered? If it is, I will add it to by $100.00 list!

Thanks guys.

What year is your Durango. Have you seen the lens for the bulb/LED? On my 2011 I think that area is only illuminated by an LED in the overhead console that provides a bit of light for the entire controls and console area. You don't happen to have anything blocking the LED in the overhead console, do you? If that turns out to be the same as your Durango, the light comes from an LED. I've had my overhead console apart to replace all the map and interior illumination bulbs to 5600K LEDs. I left that LED alone though since the 5600K LED would be too bright for the function.

It is a 2011. I know the light you are talking about, but the overhead console one works fine. If you look to the left of the picture where the 12V plug is there is a light that shines on that little "coin" area.

Hmm, I don't remember seeing that area illuminated in my 2011. I'll have to check later.

Maybe yours went south too? You can look up under there and see a rectangular lens, but that's it. It would be pretty far back in the center stack if you took it apart so I was not going to mess with it. Let me know what you find out.

I have the same issue. I took the radio bezel and climate controls off to see if I could get to it, but it seems like you have to take the lower dash apart to get there. It came back on for a few days but now its been out for over a year.

Maybe one day when I have a few extra hours to get it apart I'll try again, but the fact that we don't know if it's replaceable makes it less than desirable to get under there lol.

Wow, never knew my Durango had a bulb there. Mine is even working, yet I never noticed it. It's not very bright with that blue lens.

The bulb assembly comes out easily. There's a little tab on the passenger side of the fixture, then the part swings down from the passenger side, then slide it away from the console. There was about 5 inches of excess wire which enabled me to get the fixture down to where I could work with it and unplug it to take it to the bench.

The unit uses a standard incandescent bulb and the bulb is a #37 bulb. Pretty easy to replace. It's just slid in place, not soldered or anything fancy.

Well then... Guess I better go change that puppy. Thanks Rod! Guess I forgot to use the KISS method (Keep it simple stupid) lol.

20 mins later... Got it out and just need to go get some bulbs. It really only took 5 minutes. I had a blue led I thought about putting in there instead then decided against it.

Thanks! That's why I love these forums. Time to go get a light bulb. SHO Rod, it is funny you say that you never noticed. I had not really paid attention either till I went to get something one night on a road trip. I could not see down there to find my phone and it got me thinking, I thought that area was lit at one time. After the trip I looked under there to see if there was a light and yep! So I guess it is true, you don't know what you have till it is gone. Thanks again.
