Default Keyless Entry Not Working ??

Hi All,

Not sure what is wrong here but the keyless entry system on my recently purchased 2013 DD Citadel isn't working (never worked since I got it). I can see that I have the keyless options (see below in build sheet) but not sure why it's not working. I also purchased a Start button since it was not installed when I purchased it but all I get is Damaged Key when trying to press it.

What am I missing here? I should be able to walk up to the truck with my keyfob and lock/unlock the doors... correct?

Thanks for any help provided!!

Bill

Have you checked the battery in your fob? Did you only get one fob, or two? If two, have you tried the other one?

I'd start by installing a fresh battery in the fob, or take the fob to your local auto parts store and test it. Most (around here anyway) have little cardboard displays near the checkout registers with batteries, fob cases, and an RF tester to test if your fob is working transmitting.

You might also go in to the Vehicle Settings from the information display and make sure Remote Entry is not disabled. I don't recall if that is a setting or not, but it's good to make yourself familiar with what options are available to you in that menu anyway.

I have a 2011 Durango but just checked Alldata to see if there was a troubleshooting guide on the keyless. At least for the 2011, there are two TSBs that sound like they could be related, but I'm not sure if either or similar would apply to the 2013 model year.

The TSBs related to the 2011 are 08-024-11 REV. A and 08-110-14.

For 08-024-11:
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The service flash corrects the following conditions:
^ Intermittent no start
^ Intermittent RKE function
The above conditions may be caused by a software lockup in the module. The lockup condition may be cleared by removing and reinserting fuse M27.
Flash reprogramming the WIN will correct these conditions.

For 08-110-14 (and this one is listed for the 2011-2013 Durango):
NOTE :This Service Bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before September 30, 2013 (MDH 0930XX) equipped with Remote Proximity Keyless Entry (sales code GXD) plus Keyless Go (sales code GX4). SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customers may experience an unresponsive remote entry transmitter integrated key FOB.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify no DTCs are set. If DTCs are present, record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin. If the customer describes the symptom/condition, perform the Repair Procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Open and close the key FOB case to reset the power. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT> TechCONNECT under: Service Info> 08 - Electrical> 8N - Power Systems> Power Locks> TRANSMITTER, Integrated Key FOB> Standard Procedure> BATTERY REPLACEMENT.
2. Test both the door lock/unlock and remote start functions to verify that the key FOB is operating properly.
3. Did the key FOB door lock/unlock and remote start functions become functional again?
a. YES >>> Continue with the Repair Procedure.
b. NO >>> This bulletin does not apply. Further diagnosis is required.
Ultimately both are resolved by a software update.

Hi Rod,

I have 2 FOBs and I have tried them both with same results. I will check the batteries but they work when locking/unlocking the truck and also remote starting so not sure if the battery is the issue. Either way... I will change them out to see and also to have fresh batteries :-)

Thanks !

Okay, so the keyless entry DOES work when using the buttons on the FOB, it's just the feature where you should only need to touch the door handle to unlock that doesn't work? Well, that and the Start/Stop button for the engine?

Hey Rod,

You are correct. Everything other than touching the door handles and Push Start work. I thought these features were standard on Citadels but I could be wrong.

I may end up bringing it into dealer to be looked at since I have some recall work to be done anyways.

Thanks for your help

There is an antenna for the keyless located under the rear load floor that sometimes isn't fully clipped into its connection to the computer.

Try looking there.
