Unhappy 2011 Durango Citadel Hemi Spark Plugs

Morning All, Need a quick help. I have 156k miles on my D and never replaced the plugs. Now i want to do it this weekend, but undecided on which plugs to get. So many threads state cooper and some Iridiums, what is your recommendations? I drive 1,100 miles a week, 4 hours a day.

Thanks in Advance!

I would stick with OEM. Whatever they are. Usually stated on the underhood sticker.

Yep, OEM. Correct part to always do it right the first time.

My 2013 Hemi D manual states to change spark plugs every 30K miles; I believe they are the standard copper electrode. The newer Hemi's (I believe 2014 and newer) state to change every 100K miles and, if I recall correctly, they are Iridium plugs made by NGK for Mopar - you'll need to double check on that. At your driving rate you would need to replace the standard plugs like every 30 weeks. I tried to get an answer from the FCA Dodge Care Specialists about whether I could substitute the current plugs with the new Mopar iridium (because I don't want my Lifetime Maximum Care warranty to be voided), but I never got an answer back from them.

CORRECTION - I wrote they are Iridium, but after further searching through the NGK catalog it states they are Platinum.

Hello cuconwk,

We can only recommend as per the owner's manual for the 2011 Dodge Durango section Maintaining your vehicle page 527 for the Spark Plugs for the 5.7L Engine LZFR5C–11G (Gap 0.043 in [1.09 mm]) and on page 534 it shows to replace the spark plugs for the 5.7L engine every 32,000 miles or 24 months which ever comes first.

I hope this will information will help.

Thanks.

Lyne

you can run the 2014-up 100k plugs as they are a option that has been used in the police cars since 2011. i have them as well as many others and they are fine.

Below is the link to the pdf for the Durango Special Service Vehicle guide. The Platinum plug part number is on page 34: SP143877AA. This is a Mopar P/N which I saw on eBay for $16.00 and Amazon for $12.71. I think I read somewhere in the forum that NGK makes that spark plugs, so an auto parts store should be able to give you the equivalent P/N and price.

The SSV guide has a lot more interesting info about the Durango maintenance with great pictures. Note that on page 61 is the standard maintenance guide we have in our Owner's Manual and it lists the standard copper electrode spark plug P/N.
