Even though I bought my own not long after buying my truck in '04, I've since learned how to build one and have for many people, including a few members here.

Just finished. Thanks to all those who helped with the parts list. Used the Spectre Filters.

 

Question for all the California members who built their own CAIs... what is the deal with me building my own and then having to get a smog some day? am i just going to have to save my old air box and put it on every time i go to get the smog done?
oh and what is the deal with posting threads? is there a "level" i have to get to in order to do that?

Can't help with the smog problem but in each section there is a "New thread" to click on and you can start a thread to ask a question, post pics, etc...

 

To all of those who made thier own intake from pvc, how does it mount to the throttle body?

 

I can see in the pictures, some people used the original rubber piece that connects the TB to the resonator. And it looks like some used a rubber plumbing coupler. You can find these in the pluming isle too. They are meant for making quick repairs or joining dissimilar materials. You may need one from the plumbing isle, for example, if you use PVC that's to big for the stock mount. They make them to adapt sizes.

 

I made a few brackets that mount to the intake.

 

I am making my own CAI too. and I am pretty sure that you can go to autozone or kragen and just pick up a new rubber seal. I know that you can order them from there.

 

Oh, I don't doubt you can get what you need from auto parts stores, I only meant that you can get everything you need from the plumbing section of most major hardware stores.

 

Could any of you guys give me a list of the pvc pipe/elbows/seals/ everything i need (besides cone filter) to do this job? I would greatly appreciate it. And the only reason i took this route is bc i am on a college student budget but i still would like some sort of air intake set up over stock. Thanks guys
