My Hemi doesn't appear to tick at all. It's got 25k miles on it now, bought it with 20k miles and switched to Amsoil Signature series 0w-30. I will be going with Amsoil 0w-20 before winter.

My Chevy with the 6.0 ticked bad. BUT, I idled it a lot, remote start, forgot it was running, got side tracked etc. I don't plan to put a remote start on my Dodge due to various reasons. I'm going to get a block heater tho.

So maybe excessive idling leads to the tick ? I start my truck, let it idle for a minute then drive easy til it warms up. Have yet to hear a tick.

man, mine ticks like crazy, soon as i switched over to syn, when i give it gas, it sounds like any other 2500 gas truck "TICK!!!!" you can hear the lifters going at it. it was louder with 5w-30, now i'm runnin 10w-30
just wonderin if any folks have a magic concoction, the motor runs great, but it does have 90k miles, so extra noise is to be expected

My truck has the "hemi tick". I haven't even worried about it. Stupid question maybe...but should I?

I've been using Castrol Syntec for a few oil changes now.

I thought the reason it is referred to the hemi tick, is that it is a normal characteristic of the Hemi.

I also use the same oil. I was going to use Castrol Edge, but the store did not have the factory recommended weight in stock.

How many miles are you going in between oil changes?

3000 to 3500 between changes. I like to try and keep it around 3k . I've heard synth is good to 5k miles but I don't like to chance it. I'm pretty obsessive about preventative maintenance.

Wow 3k with the full synthetic too? I have to go at least 5k miles with full synthetic to justify the cost difference. If your changing 7qts at 3000 miles why not just run reg oil...
