Why would it only happen after the tune though? If I untune it, it won't do it. I'm not saying you're wrong, but it doesn't make sense to me.

It honestly sounds like it could be valves though because it's a pretty uniform sound each time.

Because of the changes to thethe spark, fuel mapping and timing curves made by your tuner. Tune for 91 octane and run a tank if premium through it. Valve ping will go away and if you can keep your foot out of it your fuel economy will improve.

I can certainly try that and see what happens. Though I thought I heard 91+ octane isn't good to put in a 4.7?

What would cause the premium to fix these issues?

(sorry for any stupid questions)

I saw someone with an 2008 Ram Hemi on here with a Superchips 93 octane tune in their sig. I thought only a 91 octane tune was available for the 2008? Is there a way to get a 93 octane tune for a 2008?

No such tune. Probably put in sig because in various parts of the country you can only get 93, not 91.

So I updated the tuner since last post and the rpm surge is gone..what I have noticed is my truck feels slower with the 91tune with 93octane on the low end than it did on stock..stock I could spin my tires bout ten feet..now not so much..data logged today at 15.7 on 91..before update I was 15.28 on tow tune...wtf...87 is more aggressive than 91 with latest update..anyone else prefer the 87tune

So I hit my truck with the 87 octane program with my cortex. The very first time I drove it I could smell what smelled like a hotter than normal catylytic(sp?) converter when i got home.
I just wanted to try it then I took the program out. Since I got my gears changed last wednesday I re entered the 87 program and drove it for a few days. twice when i returned home from driving i noticed smoke coming up and out from behind my drivers front tire. It didnt smell like oil, or like a fluid leaked onto a hot exhaust or anything. It reminded me of having a new exhaust installed with that oily coating on the pipes and stickers on the pipes and mufflers and then taking it out and getting it hot for the first time.
I looked under the truck and the Y pipe was radiating hottness....you know...that haze you see from being very hot.... this is the only thing that seems feasible. But depending on how much i drove it didnt do it every time.
Is this normal????

Everything else was fine. Truck ran fine at all times ect... didnt guzzle as much gas as i expected ect...

Also....What would the tow tune do different than the 87 tune?

Most days I can't afford 89 or 91 octane gas , But when I can , I use 89.. Most days I run 87 Octane in my 2004 Hemi Motor. . I can't tell one bit of difference between 87 and 89 , and if there is a difference between the way my motor runs on 91 , I haven't ran enough through it to tell that either.. There is one station here in town I can't buy gas from , every time I put their gas in my truck . It loads up after I let it Idle for 5 minutes or more , I have to floor it for a second to clear it's throat..It's the cheapest place in town , but my truck hate that fuel..
