Default RE: Miles per gallon- What are you getting?

Well, I've had my Ram for a few weeks now. I am averaging about 15.5 mpg. I usually get between 375-400 miles out of every 24-25 gallons of gas I burn. I'd say 75% of the driving is on the interstate, but pretty frequently it is low speed or stop and go in the freeways for several miles each day during my commute to work here in Atlanta. These numbers are from my trip computer and hand calculations. On long trips on wide open interstate I average 18.5-19 mpg when I put the cruise control on 73-75 mph. On long trips I can almost get 500 miles per tank. So far I've been using 87 octane. I might switch to 89 octane for a few weeks to see if there is any difference. My truck specs are in my sig line.

I get 15.4 mpg on my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 QC 4x4 SLT w/hemi around town. And on long trips I get between 20.4 - 21.2 mpg. I use the 89 gas for my truck.
This truck has 19,970 miles on it.

On my new Ram 1500 Daytona 4x4 w/hemi I get 15.4 in town I use cruise control. And on long trips to see the doctor up north I get 20.4 and I have just above
1/2 tank of gas left. Also use 89 gas.

Both trucks have 20" wheels.

I moved over from Del Rio, TX to Ft Rucker, AL a few weeks ago loaded down with 1300 lbs. Gas mileage was approx. 17 mpg at 73 mph. My previous long haul from OH to TX had also been at 73 mph but I had gotten approx 19 mpg, but I was 300 lbs lighter so I'm thinking I went back down the other side of the performance hill by being too heavy.

I drive 3 miles in a rural area, at speeds between 45 and 60MPH, to get to the expressway where I will run 60 to 70 MPH. Anywhere that I am going will also be within a few miles of the expressway. If I try really hard and baby it I will get 14.4 mpg regular driving will get me 12.2 mpg. I dont hot rod enough to know what that would get me long term.

05 QC hemi 4X4 20" rims 6500 miles and no mods....YET!!

The computer is telling me about 8.6mpg...and doing the math in my head on how many miles I have traveled from the odometer and how much gas I probably have left, I think the computer is correct.

That's a bit scary.

This is my first tank of gas in my 2500. I do a lot of 25mph road driving, stop and go, short trips, 5 mi here, 2 mi there, etc.... Then some random highway trips at about 70mph for 20 mi or so. Just had a tune up, only 15k miles on it anyways. I'm fairly light on the pedal, haven't really let loose yet. Hopefully my next tank will be better!

When I am just going to and from work I get about 17 MPG. That is with keeping the throttle under 1/4 open. Otherwise about 15.
