Miles per gallon- What are you getting?

The best you've ever gotten on a tank was 437 miles in a manual trans 2WD truck? Sounds like you might want to rethink your driving habits. I've had a few times this summer on hilly terrain (long trips) and had the tank last past 450 miles. The best was 465 miles, which I calculated to be in the neighborhood of 17.5mpg after filling 27.4 gallons in the tank. I think the biggest problem that people run into is the way they drive for the biggest part, and secondly the way they fill their tank. Most people fill the tank until the pump clicks, and then they round off to the nearest dollar. You don't know for sure how much area is left to fill in the tank and/or fill neck. So therefore your results will be different than the next guy. I fill the same way every time, that way I know exactly what I'm gettign for fuel mileage. The way I fill is not the most recommended way to fill either. I fill until the fuel is sitting just under the cap, and staring you in the face. If the fuel isn't visible on top of the metal flap in the fill neck befire you put the cap on, then how do you know that you've filled to the same point in the tank? Just my $.02
Just a side note, with that style of refueling, I can keep the overhead computer in check at about 0.5mpg accuracy.

How in the world does anyone get over 20mpg in any Ram?
I've had my 4.7L 4x2 Ram since it had 10 miles on it in 2004. 3.55 Gears, FIPK, Gibson exhaust, 245/60R17's. The worst I ever got was about 360 miles to a tank. The best I ever got was 437 miles to a tank. I drive 17 miles each way to work everyday with 90% on highway at about 60-65 mph and average 17.4 mpg with no A/C on. It is 5 speed stick, but that's not worth 3mpg. Where do you guys get those figures? Seriously, is there a hybrid out there and we just don't know about it?

But you know what, Why does anyone care...we're driving the best damned full size pickups on (and sometimes off) the road. If mpg really mattered, we'd get a VW rabbit!
Yup, it lasted 465 miles on that tank, and I'm not saying it was mountainous terrain, but was on a uphill grade. I think if I have not had to drive uphill, that I could get 500 miles to a tank, maybe a little more. Next year I plan on installing a 34 gallon tank to replace the 26 gallon tank in there now.
farthest i have made it on a tank of gas in my hemi is 421 miles. my truck has the 3.92's and 20"'s and this was driving from southern illinois to the west side of the quad cities. needless to say, i was quite pleased lol
Just made a trip from the Detroit area to New Lenox, IL (just south of Chicago this weekend. I went to pick up a 9.25 axle with low mileage I won on ebay for $1.25!!!! Couldn't pass that deal up. I actually threw the guy a $10 because I felt bad, haha. Anyway, I made it all the way back to Battle Creek, MI (424.7 miles on the trip) and the overhead said 6 miles til empty. I averaged 16.6mpg on the way out (260 miles) heading into the wind, and brought the mileage up to 17.2 on the return trip. That mileage was for the whole trip, so I figured I was getting 18+ for the return trip by itself.
