Miles per gallon- What are you getting?
ORIGINAL: tallgoat
I don't see how you guys are getting anything above 16mpg with gas. Mine is a 2006 1500 QC Hemi 4x4 that just tipped over 10K miles. Got 12.5-13.5mpg routinely when I had my foot in the floor on the highway all of the time. Now I have discovered that driving the speed limit with the cruise on (no A/C, go MDS go!) gets me about 15.7mpg. This is all calculated at the pump (89 octane), and I'm doing about 60% highway, 40% city. Actually got that stupid little fuel economy gauge to read 18.5mpg at it's peak. I felt proud.

Those numbers seem about right. Identical trucks won't get identical mileage. Small differences in driving habits can make a big difference.
Mine is an '04 Quad Cab 4x4, Hemi with 3.92 gears, automatic 20' wheels and tonneau cover. 100K miles
Worst ever is 7.2 !!
Best ever is 18.4 for a whole tank. That was with 89 octane, driving 55 on cruise at night (cool) while pulling a minivan on a tandem trailer. The next was about the same mileage, but at 60mph with no trailer, using cruise at night.
Those times I was doing my best to get good mileage. I usually average 14-15mpg with some town, some highway and a few fast launches. I've checked manually and the computer seems to be always less than 0.5 off.
Also, I see that using cruise, every 3mph above 55 takes 1mpg off the mileage... so at 73mph that would be around 12mpg. Sounds right to me.

Also, that best ever is what I used to get at 70mph with my 77 Chrysler with an implanted 440. Worst ever for this car was 3mpg for a whole tank though... 75 miles, LOTS of red lights!
This past weekend we drove the Hemi 250 miles on rural Maryland roads. Some was through a national park area where the speed limit was 15 MPH. alot of stop and go moving then we got onRT-1 for about 40 miles. So our average on 87 octane for the trip was 15.9 by math method and 15.7 by the overhead computer. We have an 04 quad cab 4x4 Hemi with 17 inch tires.
I have a 06' qc 4.7. I do mostly in town about 8 miles roundtrip. I average about 11-12 MPG. The sticker said 13 in town, but have not seen that unless I add a freeway run to the outlaws... I mean inlaws. I have read that about 10-15k miles I would see a substantial jump. can anyone confirm that? I am thinking about doing a cold air intake what has been the feedback on the 4.7 with them.
Thanks in advance
