So what exactly is the difference between HID projectors and halogen projectors? Every projector headlight I see just says projection headlights? Im just going to get a pair off ebay anyways, anything will be better then stock...

It is pretty sad when people are impressed by headlights that were offered STOCK on a 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII. It's been 15 years now -- we're not blown away that you found a HID kit for your 88 Oldsmobile!

I'm converting to HID, and I'll do it with projectors too. I'm not such a purist to think that it requires a full retrofit; some ebay projectors should have an ok pattern with HID bulbs -- at least much better than my stockers would have been.

HID’s in aftermarket projectors, while better than regular halogen bulbs, and HID's in the stock halogen reflector housing, are not as good as HID’s in actual, real HID projectors. I have HID’s in aftermarket projectors, and after I’ve seen how the beam pattern is, I’m getting my stock lights retrofitted with HID projectors. With the aftermarket projectors, the beam pattern sucks. The beam pattern of the stock lights with the halogen bulbs is much wider and even than the aftermarket projectors. If you look in this picture, obviously you can’t see all of the light since the picture is from inside my truck, but against a wall, the light looks like a “W". As compared with the pics dirtydog posted earlier, which show how the beam pattern of HID's should look like.

Hmm I see what you mean comparing the 2 pictures for sure.. Have you looked into how much it costs to get the actual hid projectors fit into the stock headlights? I melted 1 while gettin them apart to paint. soo im in the market for new headlights, i wanna go aftermarket projectors but if its not to much I can buy stock ones and get the projectors put in..

Well, seeing as you would have to buy another set of headlights, it will be a little pricey. For parts, HID projectors, shrouds, HID kit (wiring harness, bulbs, and ballasts), the cost is about $250-$500, depending on which projectors and shrouds you get, and where you get your HID kit. Plus, you would have to add how much the stock headlights cost, which I have no idea since my stock lights are ok. And as far as labor for the actual retrofit, the cheapest I’ve seen is $250.

holy ****, looks like Im going with the ebay ones.. its better this way anything, I dont want the chrome inside my headlights, after painting the inside and then the eyelids both grey to match the truck it didnt work as i thought cause you cant see the eyelids against the grey on the inside.. So the black ones off ebay will work out alot better

i was down at bikeweek last may and watched a ram get pulled over for HID headlights and fogs. they were pulling tons of people over for HID's.

i know cops should definitely be pulling the ricers over around here with blue and purple HID's

The Mopar fogs are adjustable. I've had a few friends get pulled over because of hids. I just put 5000k on my 06 Passat and 6000k on my Ram we'll see what happens. I live in Cali, always a little strict here...sometimes I hate this state. Hell it cost me $375 to register my truck this month. Thats it Im moving to Nevada!

I'd like to see the law they're using to ticket people with aftermarket HIDs. As far as I know there's no law anywhere stating that the light source must be a bulb with a filament. Some states do list color temperatures or content but that's usually in the sections dealing with "red", "yellow", and "blue" light restrictions. Not all OEM HIDs are projector either; the 2001-03 Lexus LS430 had reflector-based HIDs.

If they're mis-aimed or blinding oncoming traffic, that's ticketable. The fact that my bulbs aren't OEM is not an offense at all. BTW, lights have to be DOT certified to sell them but there is no similar requirement for what's actually on the car.
