Towing..I need some opinions..

I have heard that something needs to be done to the bumps. Did you buy different stops or did you modify them yourself? Another inch would be bad *** but at that point you may start having problems with the 20s rubbing. If I had the money I would have it dropped all the way down with bags but that almost seems like more trouble than its worth for a daily driver. Just a crap load more things that could break and since I go to school 2 hours away in a small town without any shops that would be able to fix the problem im just not sure about that. What is the most you have hauled in it since the drop? Was it riding really low or on the stoppers?

What you need to do depends on the total weight you will be towing. Also wind resistance plays a big roll when towing. I agree 4:56 gears are something you will need to do. But if the total weight gets to high you will need to go to a Cummins Turbo diesel.
Some thing else oinfo wise that will help is how often are you going to tow and how far. Also over what terrain.

not to be a nag but 4:56 's are good but dont be fooled .. i run 4:10 in a 8k plus pound truck and i tow a 4k pound camper with heavy 37 inch mud tires . i have no issues ....factory gears are not meant for towing in a 1500 this is why dodge made 2500's .
IMO 1500 is a day to day light duty truck .
2500 is that and a work truck .
a 3500 IS A WORK HORSE.
adding a cummins to a 2500 or 3500 is just more ***** .
their is a reason why dodge doesent put a cummins in a 1500 ....its a day to day truck .

That cummins is cheap. By time you mod your current truck to make it pull like you want the new truck might be cheaper. Then just insure it for fire and theft and activate liability and chit when you are going to haul. IMO this makes the most sense.

You guys are getting some terrible mileage towing! I used to get 10-11 MPG pulling my trailer and race car (about 5000 lb including gear) with my 2002 4.7 1500 QC with 3.55's. Now I get about 13 MPG towing with my Hemi 2500. If you are getting 5-6 MPG and pulling less than that, even with wind resistance, something is wrong.
Either that or you are trying to go 80 MPH!
