Default 2007 VIN question!

I was wondering if anybody knew the difference between the second digit in the VIN being a "2" verses a "D"? I have tried to figure it out but the only thing I come up with is "D" means it is a DODGE! My curiosity rose when I was on a few different sites comparing prices for a new cat back and ALL of them asked for second digit of VIN....in my case I have a 2007 QC 5.7L "D" 4X4. I am just wondering if this means anything?

I believe it's the plant where the truck was built. "D" is the St. Louis plant.

**Edit** Whoops. "D" is Dodge. Digit 11 is the plant of assembly.

so what does "2" stand for and why does it matter when ordering parts. Is there a difference between the two?

I found where the second digit was suppose to the manufacture code but what I can't figure out is why autozone cares how the VIN reads unless there is a difference!

The dealers usually only want the last eight digits. Are you sure that "2" is the second digit? I just looked at my '06 shop manual and the only "2" early on is the third digit, signifying the vehicle type. Did the '07s have an assembly point in Canada?

Second digit should be Make, don't know why you'd have a "2". Maybe Dodge used a 2 along with B and D. I believe Dodge switch from B to D in 2002 w/ the 3rd Gens, maybe they switched again in '05.
