Stock 20" Rim - Aggressive Tread.
I just bought a new to me 2007 1500. I have the 20" (plactic covered???) rims and would like something aggresive.
What is a good tire brand/type? Dessert, mud, all terrian?
I'll be doing highway drivin, but the campgrounds are gravel road.
Still mulling over a leveling kit. So something in the stock 33" to leveled 35" category on a 20" rim.
Not changing wheel size.

i had cooper discoverer stt 35x12.50r20s on the factory chromed plastic wheels...
they was quiet and had pretty good tread wear but the costed me $253 each
they rode great too and still towed a 6,000 pound trailer

Wider = harder to stop. Wider+taller = even harder to stop.
I want the looks but not the added weight.
Nittos are a good bit cheaper than the Mickey's. And I think you could do better than the price you are finding. I thought enough of them to put them on my Grand Cherokee but was able to get them in 32" for $127.50 each. Can't believe if you are looking at 33s they are double that price!
That said, I have run Mickey Thompson tires for 68,000 miles (trade in time) and they easily had 40% tread left if not more. I've never had a Mickey Thompson/Dick Cepek tire that has worn much at all and if I'da kept the trucks long enough could easily have gotten 80k out of them. My current Cepeks on my truck aren't even down 10% at 30k!
The only reason I didn't go with ATZs on my Jeep was because my local tire guys regular distributor didn't have it in my size and if he had to order elswhere he'd have to pay more and pay for shipping. At $80 difference per tire, I went with the Nittos. Very happy with them after a year and 12k miles. I think they perform as well as the Mickeys, but will they last anywhere near as long? Only time will tell.
IMO if you can get the Mickeys even close to the price of the Nittos, I'd go with the ATZs as longevity would easily outweigh initial cost difference.
But you can't go wrong with either one, both are a SOLID performing tire...

Coming from a primarily highway driver myself. I went with the copper zeon 275x60x20. Quite aggresive tread for an a/t. I only have about 5k on them they look as good as the day I put them on. And for $140 a piece I am pleased with the value.
