Default 1500 17 Inch Wheels Powdercoat

Hello

I have a 2002 1500 with the 5.9L I am getting my wheels powder coated next week, but I have come across a problem. They are not able to coat the center cap. I have not yet asked about lug nuts whether they can do that. Is that possible? And is there a way I could buy new center caps? Or would I be better off trying to pain them myself?

Any help would be much appreciated

Mark

You will have to purchase new, black, lug nuts. And, I guess, just paint the center cap. I've heard you should use a self-etching primer for chrome before applying the color coat. I'd just paint the rims too for that matter. Powder coating is too expensive for just black color on stock 17"s.

Powdercoating is all the way. I have my factory 20 coated black and it looks amazing. With the center caps, just use plasti dip. It will stick to anything and wont chip. doing my this weeken.

OP those 17" center caps also come in Black Plastic (same look and material as the OEM fender flares which I beleive are listed by dodge as paintable. They come on the 1500 model work truck rims that are steel and painted silver (02 and up). I am running those Caps and got the chrome ones in the shed, and if you decide to paint them it will stick alot better than too the chrome ones

I left mine chrome, kinda breaks up all of the black of the wheel/tire but I would probably paint mine rather than plastidip to keep the sheen level up

Being able to buy them is nice but just for the ease I would just pop em out and give em a good sand, primer, and whatever black paint you have around you. glossy or satin, whatever color you are going for

^^^I agree w/ matt99...I like the silver center cap breaking up all the black. w/ silver lugs.

If you have to have them painted then just do what Matt said and sand and paint. if you want EASY then just plasti dip them.

Matt- I'll be doing this very soon. How do your wheels hold up in the winter?

CJS4444- Did you paint or plasti dip your gas cap?

My gas cap was actually painted with flat black engine paint...but plasti dip would work just fine
