Default Well the Ram's gone...

I just thought I would pop in and give you guys an update on whats been going on for the last few weeks. I moved back to college last week and I couldn't afford gas for my Hemi Ram, so I had to sell it... I sold it to a young guy like myself, and hope he enjoys it as much as I did. I ended up buying a Honda Accord EX coupe, 2.4 V-Tec 4 Cylinder, 5 Speed. Its a fun little car to drive, but I'm gonna miss my Dodge. Maybe after I graduate from college I can afford to drive another one. Thanks for all of the information for the past few months. I'm helping my dad restore a Pro-Street 77 D-100, so I'll still be around.

The Honda will do you well during school. It's good to have an economy car in the stable, expecially when expenses are high.

I had a Jeep J10 pickup when I was in college, a BEAST that got about 8 mpg and a Honda 650 Nighthawk. The bike was great on gas, but my commute to college was 22 miles each way and in upstate NY winters it was a hard call on whether to freeze my a$$ off or spend on gas. Also had to watch the weather report like a hawk, didn't want to be stuck at school with the bike in a blizzard!

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do, kid...

Isn't it funny, the gyrations that car makers go through to bring that kind of mileage today. 45 mpg - that's Prius and VW TDI territory. But little cars got that kind of mileage in the past, before the cars got bloated up with fluff and mandatory safety gear (side airbags, anybody?).

My first truck was a 1983 Ford Ranger. The thing had a 2.3 L 4-banger, 4-speed stick, and got 28-30 MPG on the highway in real-world driving. Now, they're 1000 pounds heavier, and even in 2WD trim, you're lucky to get 24 mpg out of one. That's a pretty big penalty for a truck that won't haul a 4X8 sheet of plywood between the wheel wells.
