Default 93 oct

I have a question about the octane in an Hemi. My buddy says not to run more than 5 gallons of 93 in a tank because it could "melt the thermostat." Is this true? I dont have a tuner, but i do notice better pickup on her.

No, common misconception... 93 octane only melts the 4.7's thermostat!

Your buddy must be a mechanic for Chevy. With friends like that, who needs enemies? Maybe he's trying to find out how gullible you are. 93 is not necessary unless you're mixing it with 87 to get 89ish (or you have a tune).

Your buddy just sent you to the tool room for muffler bearings, and blinker fluid.

haha ok thanks. The sad thing is that he is serious and he claims he read it on some dodge ram forums because he also has an 04 Hemi too. Just wanted to get my facts straight

OK....I'll answer this one.

Here in the UK, our lowest octane or RON (Research Octane Number) rated fuel is Unleaded at 95.
Our Super unleaded at 98 RON and our leaded 4 Star at 98 RON also.

I have been running the 95 for nearly 5 years now, with no problems whatever.
I also run my Hemi with LPG gas but that's another story, also without any problems.

Hope this gives you confidence?
Al.

Ha, the only thing it may melt is your wallet. I've been running 93 since a couple of months after buying the truck, (about 3Yr.), I thought the truck felt stronger stock, and since I got the tuner it's a necessity.
