tow chains
Thats really expensive. Try this. Look here at straps. http://www.quadratec.com/category/Je.../141/index.htm
So, Since breaking tow chains is a new thing to me, This may be a dumb question, but has anyone really ever broke a 1/2 inch logging chain? We have one that was grandpa's, then my father's, now since he died, it is mine. The last thing we yanked with it was a stuck crete truck with a ram 2500 Cummins 4x4 pumpkin deep in the mud. Crete truck, not the dodge. That chain has to be 70 years old and no stretch marks in it at all. Just wondering what you have to do to break one. And , yes it was jerked on pretty hard to free the truck, and had a large blanket over it.
i ave always used a recovery strap to get trucks out of mud and i did it a lot for a while. and i could get BBIIIGG mud trucks unstuck with not to much of a problem. i must have snatched mine 60+ times and mine still looked pretty new. as long as you wash the mud off (angle the hose so mud and dirt dont get imbedded in the nylon) and take care of it. you should be able to use it for a while. the only reason i dont have mine anymore is i looped it through its self and didnt put something in the loop and it was to tight to loosen and take off so i had to cut it off. you will know when you need a new one cause you will be able to look at it and tell it is stretched and worn.i used a 3" by 20ft recovery strap and it was awesome. but with a recovery strap start out with a smaller ******( i started with 3-4ft ******). and if it dont do it then do a little more. but from my experience with my strap any ****** 8ft or more and your gonna break something on the truck. my buddy used my strap one night and the guy pulling him out did a 12-15ft ****** and started by his front bumper and made my friend wheely in a full size pu and broke some of his steering components and power steering. so start small and get longer. ( made to stretch) just romp on it at 4ft and that usually works and if not. ****** it longer.
1st and reverse are the same ratio. 4x4s have an advantage reversing since the engine/transfer case/tranny bias the weight toward the front end.
I like to use straps to reduce the chance of losing a back window or damaging the tailgate. A blanket or jacket over the strap is always a good idea.
