Default D Load Range Vs. E Load Range

Good morning all,

Just wondering, Is it safe to run a 'D' load range tire over an 'E' load range tire. I drive a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Quadcab Hemi. I don't ever tow and only haul light loads (groceries). The load index of the stock 'E' tires and the new 'D' tires I'm looking at are identical (121/118)

Thanks for the opinions!!!

If you do not tow heavy weights and mainly drive around then either would be fine for you. What are the cost differences for you?

I've got a "D" rated tire on my truck. I have to travel on the interstate 360 miles from my place in Florida to my place in central Georgia quite often and just didn't feel like bouncing around on relatively harsh "E" tires.

I don't tow often, but when I do it's usually big weight (8k pounds +). I would have E tires if I towed/hauled often, but it ain't like a "D" tire is like a passenger car tire here.

You'll be fine...

I think it's worth mentioning that D rated tires on a 2500 have been know to promote death wobble, especially with a lift kit.

Just saying something to keep in mind.

Thanks for the advice guys...... It's not really a cost issue for me more than it is a selection issue..... Just not alot of E rated 285/70R17 AT tires to choose from..... Not that I do alot of off roading, I was looking for a more aggressive tread pattern and tires that make the truck pop.... My round trip commute to work everyday is about 33 miles or so plus winter is on the way....

and the thing here is, my local dealership routinely tells guys with 2500s and death wobble that their stiff walled E tires have no "give" and are a prime factor in death wobble.

So go figure...

Yeah, gotta love these guys, if that was the case dropping the air preasure down to around 35 Lb. would make the DW go away.

What is the 'Death Wobble' to be exact?? What are the symptoms.... Is it like when I go over a bridge, there's a rut at the bridge-road junction and the truck kinda shimmies or jumps around when I hit that rut???
