Default What's the diff. between a 1500 and 2500 Mega Cab with 5.7 Hemi?

We're in the market and searching for a Mega Cab. Seeing that we no longer will look to tow any 5th wheels we're now looking into a 5.7 as opposed to Cummins. The most we'd tow would be a wakeboat which I believe the 5.7 should easily handle.

At any rate, I came across a 2500 Mega Cab with a 5.7. What's the difference between that and the 1500 Mega Cab? From what I thought I've researched, the 1500 MC is based off a 2500 chassis. So now I'm confused...

Thanks much

I believe the only real difference is tow rating. Maybe a little softer ride but hardly

The main difference between a standard 1500 Ram and a 1500 MC is tow ratings. A standard 1500 can tow more which is why the MC is rated at the 1500's level.
Engine wise, they are identical, but the MC's do weigh ALOT more so that is just dead weight your hauling around and you'll get worse mpg's because of it.

Here's a link to the specs which are the same for all 06-08 years btw

Thanks for the link! BTW why does a standard 1500 tow more than a Mega Cab? I thought since the MC 1500 is on a 2500 chassis, it would be able to tow more...sorry for the newbie questions.

Well, according to Chrysler literature (2008);

1500 Mega Cab 4X2/4X4:

G.V.W.R.- 8,510
G.C.W.R.- 14,000 (3.73) or 15,000 (4.10)
Max. Payload- 2,550/2,090
Max. Trailer- 7,900/7,450 (3.73)
8,900/8,450 (4.10)

2500 Mega Cab V8 4X2/4X4:

G.V.W.R.- 8,800
G.C.W.R.- 15,000 (3.73) or 17,000 (4.10)
Max. Payload- 2,770/2,330
Max. Trailer- 8,800/8,400 (3.73)
10,800/10,400 (4.10)

I hope that this helps and answers questions? Good Luck!

Default These guys don"t kno!

Hey thread? well 1st of all "DIRTYDOG" & "HEMIRAM1566" have no clue on wat they said about a 1500 QC standard towing more than a mega cab!..haha BULL****! I have a 06' mega cab which tows about the same as a 2500 hemi we have the same axsle & rear end 4.10 same rotors, same suspension ur truck like mine has 4 leaf springs & the 5th is strongest of all. If they dissagree just compare our rear axsle with there 1500s & i rest my case qc 4x4. I tow a 5th wheel 27"FTer & im trying to find a trailer to attach on the rear of the trailer.

I believe the front springs might be slightly upgraded on the 2500mc vs 1500MC to make up the difference in GVWR. Don't understand why there is GCWR differences with the same axle ratios.
