GY Wrangler HP
I just replaced my goodyears with Firestone Destination A/T. Went from a 245/70/17 to a 285/70/17 on new rims... made a whole world of difference. If the roads were even damp my goodyears would just spin. Day after I got my new tires it snowed about 2 inchs so I had to put them to the test. They performed wonderfully... only way I could get them to spin was by dumping the clutch in first gear.
Found them to be great in snow with 4 wheel drive 2007 hemi ram. Had problems with Dealer and called Goodyear. Truck has a vibration at 65mph and above right front since new set of GY HPs at 44,000 miles. No problem until new set put on. Did not need to change tires at 44,000 just figured they would be down to wear bar by mid winter or 50,000mi and what the heck. Well, you will find a posting on this board and a survey showing most all Rams have GY HPs. They are excellent for Gas Mileage, and 3-15 inches of snow, lousey in any mud or ice or light slick snow so 4 wheel drive comes into play there. If I had to do it over I would not have made this purchase! Get a set of Falken Wild Peak RATED IN ALL CATAGORIES 5,5,5,5,5.........ROLLING RESISTANCE TO TRACTION TO TREAD LIFE. I know I would have had I thought better at the time. Regards, Michael

The HP is vastly over priced as well. You can get countless tires that will outperform and outlast the HP's for a good $50+ p/tire less. IMO don't waste your money on any Goodforayear tire let alone the HP's.
I also agree with the other poster who said to replace all 4 not just 2. You have a 4WD so this is important. You never want to have 2 new tires and 2 worn tires on a 4WD. You might even run into tire stores that refuse to replace just 2. Seen it many times with 4WD and AWD vehicles needing just 2 tires.
You can get away with replacing just 2 if the other 2 have at least 3/4+ tread left. Anything less than that and you need to replace all 4 tires at the same time. Also, do not run different tread patterns if you do only replace 2. If you do that you need to get HP's. Don't run a different brand AS or even worse 2 new AT's. You also need to keep the size the same( overall diameter ). Don't run 2 different sizes on a 4WD unless the overall diameter is the same.
As to what kind of tire( all season vs all terrain )that is up to you. I don't know your driving needs and I didn't see where you are at to know what kind of weather you see? Unless you do off roading though a quality AS tire like the Destination LE, Michelin LTX M+S2, or the General Grabber HTS will handle your needs just fine even in areas with heavy snow. The Destination LE's are amazing in the snow. This is my 3rd vehicle with them and they do great. If you want an AT tire then I recommend Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo, Bridgestone Dueler AT D695, Firestone Destination AT, or BF Goodrich TA KO. These are my preferred AT tires.
Here is an article on it from Tirerack as everyone seems to feel they are a credible source for this stuff...

I will have to agree with everyone that the HPs are pricey for what they offer (poor traction in the slightes rain), but I can't complain about the 60,000 miles I put on mine. (yes, poor college student).
My truck is a 2x4 so not as relavant to this discussion, but might help some fellow 2x4 owners.
I got 60,000 miles out of them and didnt rotate them once. Yes, there was metal hangin out of the front two tires on the inside of them and the truck shook a little when i hit 60mph (this is when I decided to replace them & eat pbj sandwiches for a few months).
I replaced them with the BF Goodrich long tours and must say they about ready to be replace after 40,000.
Anyone have a good suggestion of tire for 95% highway driving 2x4 wanting lots of miles?

Firestone Destination LE. If you rotate them and keep the PSI set properly you should easily get 50-60K and they are very affordable in the 20" size.
I can honestly say that I've had no probs with my HP's. When I bought my truck in March, they put brand new HP's on, and since then I'v put on approx. 13K on, and they still look like brand new! And we've got a lot of snow here in the past couple of days, and she tears through the snow like a hot knife through butta!
