Default Flowmaster Failed after only 4 years!

My tail pipe broke off right at the muffler (factory weld) after only having it installed for 4 years.

After driving it around for a couple short trips to the store I rather like the new rumble.

That sucks. My glass pack is completely rusted out. I need to get a factory muffler to make it nice and quite. Or some really long magnaflow muffler.

Really doesnt surprise me at all. Flowmasters are notorious for their rusting. I wouldnt put one on anything I own, IMO they are overrated.

The only reason I bought my Flowmaster kit was because it was used for a bout a week, and buddy was selling it for half the list price. They sound great, but I agree, all you hear is bad things about them rusting out, Ive even heard they have less flow then a stock system (any truth to that?)

here ya go, this was taken from another site:

The following is a compilation of some popular mufflers and their CFM rating. Basically, how good they "flow"...

Dodge Ram OEM: 285-355 depending on year and engine.

Walker PF29: 217
Thrush CVX: 260
Thrush Boss Turbo: 297
Gibson Superflow: 311
Hooker Super Competition: 320
Summit Turbo: 331
Flowtech Afterburner: 342
Summit Fully Welded: 343
Flowmaster 40: 352
Flowmaster 50: 362
Dynomax Super Turbo: 410
Cherry Bomb Pro: 470
Cherry Bomb Extreme: 500
Thrush Magnum Glasspack: 507
Cherry Bomb Glasspack: 510
Edelbrock RPM: 579
Cherry Bomb Vortex: 580
Edelbrock 304: 640
Dynomax Race Magnum: 711
Borla XR-1: 836
Dynomax Ultra Flow SS: 1000

In an ideal situation on a stock to mildly modded engine you will want 600 CFM max.

Yep Nitto, I got about 4 years out of my Flowmaster 50HD. Top looked like a brown, rotted slice of swiss cheese when I cut it out.

I debated between the Cherry Bomb Vortex and Extreme for a bit, but got an Extreme sent to me as a gift, so it made my decision easier.

Vortex sounds great and flows slightly better than the Extreme because there is no internal wing plate. Get it, you won't be disappointed...
