If you can find a place for desktop - good for you. The only place which might be suitable in my opinion is instead of middle seat. I'm not sure will I take it out or not , yet.

Though you seem to have a slight misconception concerning the significance of processor clock speed. A 2ghz processor can outperform a 4ghz processor if it has superior architecture and fabrication process. In the computer world it isn't all about numbers.

You're correct popdog.... Only problem is that you're fighting a battle that has nothing to do with anything this thread is actually about.

lol i'm aware. I was just trying to educate a little bit on the common misconception. In regards to the thread I simply was trying to prove the point that a tablet could very well serve his needs appropriately. Maybe it's not what he wants. Sound processing technology has come far enough to provide digital surround sound output via HDMI from a tablet, so that's really not a roadblock.

tablets are sleak and the one's on the horizon of early 2011 look very promising. will it be cheap? certainly not. Could you build it into the dash and not have to be concerned about overheating? Certainly, they're built as sealed units to dissipate heat properly in normal operating conditions without any need for active cooling. Would a normal pc be cheaper and more powerful? yes. Is it going to suck to use a touchscreen in a truck with a normal windows pc compared to a tablet optimized for touch? absolutely.

It depends on his needs, my intentions were not to make this a 1 -sided recommendation thread and rather introduce the pros and cons of various solutions.

Informed decision is the best decision . Anyway, each of us choose the hardware to install in the truck by different criteria. One wants the best sound, another wants something not too expensive, etc. All options are available.

Hey weed I know you have made up basic plans and you probably already have parts. But check out this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSnIXfoSU6I

there are four parts. The first two videos are kinda rough, i.e. needed more to be a clean install but they pull it out by part 4.

Just a resource for anyone in here.

Have you already or thought about building a center consol to replace the middle seat up front and extending it all the way to the dash? Hollow it out and build yourself a tower inside the consol and then wire up a screen into the face of the dash. Relocate the cup holders to the consol and move AC controls to the cubby under it. Add out puts coming out of the consol for your ports, and a CD/DVD ROM drive somewhere on it, vent holes to the sides with fans for cooling, work in a slide out key board that is hidden and figure something out for a mouse or finger a pad like laptops have and call it a day. A LOT of work and fab time but would be sweet when finished.

Only real thing that would concern me is the outside temps, here at least in the summer it can get to over 140*+ inside the cab when parked outside and that wouldnt be good, in humid areas the humidity wouldnt be to great either and extreme cold areas would be the same.

Well... lol. I was just messing with my cup holder seeing how it mounts and everything.... Well i broke the two top tabs off. lol.

So I am considering making a ipad mount right there.

What do you all think? I Would upgrade my factory head unit (again) to something that allowed for an audio input and run it out of the headphone jack or something along those lines. Have a power plug in built in and if I need internet pop up a wifi network with my phone. Free GPS

What do you think about that?

Sorry to thread jack weed, but it is sorta relevant.
