new mod ideas and want some input
So I think I am going to sell my Pioneer AVIC Z1. Its been modded and tricked out and I totally love it but I want something different and maybe more versatile and even more flexible than it is.
Q) How do you top out a Pioneer AVIC Z1?
A) A "truck-puter"
What i want is something fast, extremely responsive (no lag), HDMI+VGA out.
It will likely be Windows based but skinned with other software. Windows is just simple and there is plenty of software out there for it. Im not going to run heavy software but just music videos, movies, music.
Minimum is a dual core and would like a quad core. Minimum 2Gb ram and a 1Tb HDD. I will run USB and audio input extensions from the MoBo to someplace else for accessories like external HDD or MP3 player.
I will use software for an on-screen keyboard as an option but will use a small bluetooth keyboard if it is needed.
The screen will be a touch screen and I want a 9"-10" but I have no idea who makes a good touch screen so anyone got any in mind?
My thought is to run HDMI to the main touch screen and run a VGA simultaneous but convert it to RCA to feed video to my other screens in the truck.
But what I do not know yet is if i can run both HDMI and VGA out at the same time. If not then thats ok as they have both HDMI-to-RCA and VGA-to-RCA cables. I dont need audio to the screens.
I will do Navi through some sort of USB GPS receiver. Again, not sure on what to use or who so if anyone knows any, please LMK.
Navi maps and software is easy. Ive got tons of that.
Wireless on the system will get WiFi tethered from my Android Droid X. So ive got that covered.
Ive got a power inverter although I might need a bigger one but no worries there.
Placement Im still working on but think i got that covered also.
But any ideas you guys want to share I would appreciate.

check out sonicelectronix.com .... my source for everything audio
Can probably find the touchscreen and a few other things you need there...
Id love to see where you take this.... Do you plan on basically mounting a tower somewhere remote in your car? or building it all behind the dash somewhere... Im a bit confused as what exactly you mean by carputer (obviously a computer in the car... ) but aren't there companies out there that make units ready to go like this?
