Default May have to part ways

Well folks, its becoming a very difficult decision but it appears that i may be needing to part with my Ram due to financial reasons. Between the cost of gas at 3.30 a gallon and the year and a half of payments i have left on it i think it might be time to sell it and just buy something cheap and used to own outright. When gas was 40 bucks to fill my tank i could handle it but i am spending $100 a week plus 400 a month in a truck payment...thats more for my truck than my mortgage. My questions would be obviously one is it worth it or am i thinking irrationally? two i owe about $5500 bucks on the truck, its is a 2003 Dodge Ram Quad Cab Hemi SB, what should i expect to get for it from say carmax or am i better to try and private party sell it? Blue Book has the trade in at about $7500 so i would essentially seel it and take that 2k to go by a used ford exploder or something to get me by untill sunnier days. any thoughts? hate that its come to this as i love love love my truck but i love love love my family having a roof over their head more.

I wouldnt go to carmax if you do sell it. My dad had a 01 jeep grand cherokee loaded with every option 4.7 v8 130k had all the maintance records and didnt have a scratch, dent or rust on it was 6 years old they said they best they could do is 3,800 for it!! He ended up selling it for 8,000 2 weeks later. They tried to low ball my uncle too with his 04 grand cherokee they were going to give him 6 for it and he sold it for 9,500. I saw you are better off selling it on your own throw it on craigslist and in the local paper. Anyway family is more important you have to be able to keep them fed and in a warm dry house. I just think its nuts to have a 400.00 payment thats why I will never own anything with a payment.

If you do sell private Party is your best bet...might take longer but you'll def get more if you're patient.

For those of you who don't get it:

Forty Creek is way better or Crown Royal.

Well gas is about $4.50 a gallon here in Vancouver Canada and the average house costs about $800,000.00 (no joke) he'll a 12 pack of beer is $23.00, but I can feel your pain. Got to do what you have to but please don't get a Ford.

Well you gotta do what you gotta do, I don't think switching to an explorer would save you much on gas though, I traded in my 05 for my current truck and the exploder was only gettin 14 or so mixed driving. I guess I'm fairly lucky cuz here in Texas gas is still under 3 bucks

I know the feeling. I bought mine in 04 before the war hit. Fuel was affordable. Then the war came and chit went crazy. I likely would not have bought my truck back then if fuel prices were what they are now.

I turned 44 the other day, that means I've been driving for 28 years. In those 28 years I've gone seven months total without owning a 4x4 pickup or 4x4 SUV. Even if gas was $6 a gallon, I'd still own a truck. It just wouldn't move out of the driveway unless absolutely necessary...
