Default New Dodge Ram Owner

I posted about a month ago asking for help. I was looking for things I can look for that tells me a used ram has been beat up. Well, found me an awesome truck and I'm happy as hell.

I'll post a pic when I can, but I want to thank this forum because you all love your trucks and you help out people like me who need all the help they can get. Unfortunately, I'm no mechanic, so I can't spot bull**** when it really matters.

I'm thinking my first purchase should be a code scanner. I'm thinking a basic setup, but I can't cheap out for something worthless. Any suggestions? I'm good on fluid changes and basic maintenance, but if I have any trans or engine probs I'm a prime target to be a sucker.

I had an 82 Dodge Ram Van with a 318 v8, my favorite little workhorse, but my Dodge mechanic moved away. This forum will save my ***.

congrats on picking up a truck, if your looking for a code puller you might as well get a tuner too like a superchips, it will give you a little more power and let you pull codes. two birds..

Thanks. It's a 2008 1500 big horn 5.7L and I love it. So can I get a tuner and code reader in the same instrument or do I have to buy them separately?

No you won't need a separate scan tool and tuner. The tuner can pull the codes.

It only has 27K miles on it and it's a 2008. I think someone turned in their lease before it was up.

Thanks. I'm going to install a 1.5" level on the front, nothing overboard. It actually doesn't bother me too much, but yeah, a little level will make a difference.

I'm also going to install an exhaust on it, but haven't decided when or what I am going to put on. Probably have to wait a few months anyway.
