Fuel mileage is about the same in a hemi, and the hemi's much more reliable IMO
I bought a hemi for the reliability more than the power. 04 up hemi's are best, 03's should have their valve springs swapped out (I did mine) and they're bulletproof. Only problem with the 4.7's really is that they don't do well with overheating. Keep em cool and they'll last a long time

Mine gets 11 mpg, but it's loaded down quite heavy. It got 16 when it was brand new before the cap and rack and all of the tools went in. I was also driving it really gently to break it in before I put it to work. Watch the 02 4.7 for sludge build up, as they were known for that. It has survived 165,000 miles of hard labor so far.
