Default Plasti-dip?

I see a lot of people like to use plasti-dip on this forum. I dont really know anything about it. Can you guys give me some info? I looked at a can of it at Lowes yesterday. It says it is a rubberized coating. Is this what everyone is using? If so, does it have a rubbery feel to it after applied? Is it durable? Is it hard to clean? Thanks for any info.

Yep that's the one, but it's about $2.50 per can cheaper at Home Depot, at least in my area.

The texture is kinda like rubber, best way I can describe it is it's like the grips they put on hand tools (which is basically why this product was originally produced).

I'd say the durability is about halfway between paint and a spray on bed liner product. I've found it to be very resistand to road debris and scuffing, but it cuts easily with a knife (which is one nice thing about it, easy to remove if you don't like it).

Cleaning is really no different then how you would go at plastic molding or cladding that comes on many vehicles.

I have it on my rock rails on my Jeep 4x4 and after over a year it still looks like the day I sprayed it on (3 coats)...

Thanks hammer, i will check out home depot. What about prep for this stuff? Say over chrome. Can you just scuff and paint? What about bare metal? Any special primer needed?

That's the beauty of using this product, basically the only prep needed is to clean the surface. I have used an inexpensive adhesion promoter just prior to applying Plasti-Dip on slick surfaces like chrome or diamond plate but that's about it...

I used it on the billets in my chrome grill and it's like Matt99 and Hammer were saying, I cleaned it and sprayed it.

Here are some before and after of my first plast-dip project. I think it looks good. Tammed the chrome down alittle.
