Default '03 ram grill inserts painted

my truck is white and think the black grill inserts look badass.

anybody have any steps to do this the RIGHT way? i dont want any chipping or anything coming off when i was the truck.

also what paints to use? the grill inserts are almost brand new cause they were replaced from hitting a deer so the chrome pieces are all mint no chips or anything. dont wanna paint the grill itself just the chrome inserts

What inserts are you talking about? The big T crossbar? The honeycomb is already black. What else is left?

I don't know if an all-black grille area would look good. It'd look like something was missing -- just a giant black opening.

I like my truck's balance of paint & chrome. The chrome inside the grille ties in with the bumper but being a Laramie the outer ring is painted white. A solid white grille wouldn't look right either unless it was on a Sport with the white bumper.

You can always plasti-dip it first just to see if you like the out come.

But i wanted a gloss black, so I just Sanded, primered, painted and cleared. I used some factory match Brilliant black bought at Advanced Auto. 1 small can was plenty.

Hasn't so far...it's been about 6 months. A good thick coat of quality clear coat will protect it from fading and chipping.

I also forgot ot mention that my grille is an aftermarket billet grille that I painted. Not sure if it will be any different with the stock plastic grille? but it shouldn't

Great, now you've got me thinking about adding those inserts. More money to spend!

Actually, I might like to find a Sport bumper too. Wonder if the pull hooks will fit with that bumper...
