I don't think there are as many vacuum lines these days as in the past. A lot of that stuff is controlled electronically. Anyway, cleaning the TB should take about forty minutes or so from removing the Hemi-Hat to tightening it back down.

Hello, I have a 2003 dodge Ram 1500 with the Hemi motor. Sounds like I might have a similar problem. I've had A TON of issues with the truck in its 120k miles. The lates is a very rough idle that comes and goes. It seems to happen more after the truck has been running and is then shut down for a bit. I've changed out the o2 sensore twice as the engine light came on and problem was diagnosed. Truck still continues to idle rough but now no engine light. A strange idle that revs between about 300rpm to 1000rpm. When put in drive it blips the throttle on and off down the road and then smooths out. The truck runs great on the highway but hesitates off the line from a stand still. Please check out my youtube posting :

If anyone has any ideas I'd greatly apreciate the feedback!

There was a chafed wire that was thought to be shorting, that was fixed. That is pretty much it for recent work. Of course the head gasket was done at about 105k miles along with a valve job. The truck has run well untill recently with this new issue.

If that's all, it's WAY overdue for plugs and a TB cleaning. The PCV valve is overdue, too, at least for cleaning if not replacement. Why "Of course the head gasket was done ..."? 105K is kinda early for that.

Of course as in there has been nothing but issues with this vehicle. Some but not all of the issues: New computer at 40k, new rear end at about 60k, all hubs have been replaced twice, Power stearing leaks fixed several times, I mentioned the head and valve work, transmision pan replaced due to rot, ac condensor replaced. Yes ALL maintenance has been done in correct intervals. The truck has a new batt, altenator, plugs, wires when major work was done. Now the rear quarters are bubbling due to rust, the hood sides have been rusted for 50k miles, there is a rust hole in the roof. I do some towing with the truck but a 2 place sled trailer shouldn't tax the mighty Hemi right?? Lucky this is a second vehicle or I would never be able to leave the house. BTW, my daily driver was recently sold on Craigslist, a 05 Magnum. Never had engine problems with that car in 110k miles but lots of tire and tie rod issues.

With no CEL's present, check for a code anyways. I had an issue with mine years back that it would studder then die. No CEL's but it thru a code.

I have had issues with the distributor cap and rotor sometimes they get carbon tracking and the spark literally jumps around inside and it may not set a code unless its on a hard acceleration when it jumps.

At 124,xxx Mine spent the entire month of February in the shop short of about 3 days due to a high speed come apart of the #3 cylinder, it was basically like a shrapnel bomb went off inside the short block is my understanding.

According to the dealership that did the work, it is a defect with the 5.7l Hemi and its starting to rear its head more frequently. Possibly won't be long before a recall because Jasper says they've figured out what the problem is and have fixed it on their reman's

$6k later I have a Jasper remanufactured with a 3yr/100,000 mile warranty...
