Default Rpm fluctuations, and a stall.

So Ive noticed that when im at idle my rpms can go anywhere from 200-600.

Sometimes it will be a steady 500 or a steady 200, other times it will bob back and forth and back and forth. What could be causing this?

Also I just started my truck up in a parking lot, came to a stop sign and stalled when I came to a stop.


Truck is a ram 1500 06 5.7 thanks mates!

Also I am not getting a CEL

I have cleaned tb, as well as put in new plugs.

Sounds like it could use a TB clean. A Sea Foam treatment might do some good, too. May also be time for plugs. How many miles?

70,000 I just bought the truck around a week ago.

Betcha it needs plugs. By the book, it's 40K late, unless the PO did it/had it done already. And FYI, there are sixteen. You might want to pull a few of them and check the gap. The other two tasks are fairly easy. I'd suggest a complete fluids change, unless you know they were done recently. Peace-of-mind thing, you know.

Ok, I did a sea foam cleaning, and I was just about to remove the tb and clean it, am I ok to use crc tb cleaner?

Don't spray it in the intake, just spray it on a cloth and wipe it clean. The sensors don't like any type of cleaner very much (or so I'm told)

should I take the whole tb off or just clean it as its attached

My truck started doing the same thing a few weeks ago. I have had it die at idle before and it was the IAC, idle air control, motor which is a small part connected to the back of the throtle body mounted with just two screws so its a easy repair. After going through my Haines manual i read that the EGR valve can also cause rough idleing along with a vaccume leak so i would check your vaccume hoses and listen for a hissing sound which is a sign of a vaccume leak. I haven't replaced any of these parts yet as i was hopeing to find some answers on here that might confirm what i've read. I am going to check prices tommorrow and replace what i can afford and will reply back to let you know if it fixes the problem. I hope someone else can comment about our problem with some other ideas on fixes. Good luck and let us know if cleaning the throtle body helped.

Chrysler issued a TSB - do not use carb cleaner or TB cleaner. Use non-chlorinated brake cleaner. Remove the TB and spray the inside and the back of the butterfly. Scrub it with a toothbrush, just don't get any into the motor housing. There are no sensors in the throttle body.

Ok, well I will go buy some brake cleaner then. Also I dont really hear any hissing noises!
