Question rims and tires

I have a 2003 qc and currently I have the 20" rims with 275/65 on them. Im thinking of putting 17's on with 295/70 on the new rims, am I going to notice any real difference with them or no? Im just tired of paying a crazy price for 20" tires and I can get new rims and tires in 17" size for almost the same price. Then tires are Nitto terra grappler and the reviews are pretty good, currently I have toyo open country a/t and they only lasted 20k. Thanks for the help.

From every thing I have read you will see a better ride with the 17's. Because you will have a larger side wall. I have read a lot about this because when my 20's wear out I am also thinking about going to 17's.

Just gotta know where and how to shop. When my truck has stock 20s, everyone local wanted 700+ fpr a set mounted and balanced. I bought a brand new set on ebay for 300+100 to ship and paid another 100 to mount and balance locally

I just put new tires on the wifes Mini Cooper. Everyone local was 600+ mounted and balanced. I bought them online for 70 a tire (280 total) plus 60 to ship from CA via FedEx and paid another 40 to have them mounted and balanced. So that was about 400 total versus the 600+ they wanted local.

moral of the story, get online and price shop.

Weed when you buy tires by the internet and maybe one of the tires has a problem will the local tire dealer help you? Or do you have to go back to the source to get any help?

i can get the 17" tires and rims for $1200 from discounttire just tires for 20" would be around a grand plus mounting and balancing. They offer a warranty on the tires too that i was thinking of getting for $25 a tire. Would the 17" rims give me any extra mpg or no?

You would have to find a good shop or go back to the seller. Not trying to jinx myself but Ive never had issues with tires other than a nail or two.

Say you get a 35" tire to fit a 20" rim and a 17" rim. At that point the only difference would be the weight of the rim.

Good boy!!! You'll gain a tad of fuel economy and there are multiple benefits to having more sidewall by running the same diameter tire on a smaller diameter wheel. Towing capacity will increase as well.

20s and larger wheels look nice, no doubt, but for driveability the 17s are a better choice, especially if you take your truck off the pavement...

I gotta agree with hammer here, it seems 17's are the reasonable choice. I spent 1200.00 on my dura tracs,(20's) I'm happy with them But they better last 6 yrs. in my book lol.
