Default E-fan or programmer?

Well which one should I do first? I have an 03 QCSB hemi. Right now I only have a CAI and a catback exhaust with a flowmaster S44 SI/DO for now. Eventually I want to do headers too. Im not even sure which programmer I wshould go with. Right now Im leaning more towards the efan for alittle better mpg but just wanted everyones opinions first.

Start with a superchips programmer for now. It makes the biggest difference. I also plan to convert to E-fan but that'll be a little later down the road.

The programmer will also let you correct your speedo if you changed the tire size.

What kind of an increase with mpg's did you notice with your superchips. Do you have the 3865 or the 3815?

You'll see a little bit of an MPG increase with either. Although I haven't seen where ANYBODY's economy tunes really gain any fuel economy, pretty much just let's you run safely on 87 octane fuel. The increase across the board, be it SC or Diablo seems to be best on the performance tunes, BUT you have to run 91/93 octane, so gains could be close to a wash by the time you spend the extra for the gas. PLUS you have to be able to "stay off it"! With power gains, usually comes heavier foot!

The fan should net you a solid 1.5-2 MPGs in town, where low rpm driving as well as starts and stops really kill your MPGs with a clutch fan. As RPMs increase, the draw of the clutch fan becomes much less significant and the gains with an efan are minimal.

If it were me, I'd plan to do both (I have) but I'd prolly do the tuner first. LOT more benefits with a tuner than just modest MPG gains. More performance, firmer tranny shifts, the ability to read/clear CELs, adjust speedo for tire size, etc...

I plan on doing both just dont have the money right now to do both. As I have to also get my other project back up and running. (ATV) I need a DVC Assembly for a vinson which runs $264 new. But I do plan on doing both. Plus Im going to do some more research on the taurus 2 speed fans for the efan mod.

One of my hunting buddies has a Vinson, nice ATV. His is sitting in his garage right now needing a rear axle assembly, he mangled the hell out of his on a cypress knee. Made me glad my Can-Am has IRS and Ricochet Skids!!!

Is there a pic of said Vinson in the "show your ATV" thread in the Outdoor Section???

There isnt a pic up now but ill get some. I swamped it two octobers ago. So i decided to snorkle it. Its an auto so I did the cvt intake and exhaust as well as the intake. Had it rejetted. Shipped my moveable sheave to a guy out west who machined it(coop45 mod). Switched the clutch weights and swaped the spring out for an EPI yellow. Has a 2 inch lift and of course got rid of the stock dunlop's. Along with a 300watt split audio tubes. I like my vinson. Thing is a tank. When I was snorkling it I was turning the handle bars, to make sure it would clear, yeah well when you do that and its on jacks the suspensions drops and the a-arms smashed the dcv assembly housing. I had it plastic welded back together but no go. I press the button for the 4x4 and you cant hear it engaging.

I just got the baby one, the 400, but that there Rotax engine they got on it is hot. Can smoke that Vinson my buddy has and another buddy of mine rides a Honda Foreman 500, he weighs all of about 160 lbs, sack and all, and I'm close to 280 and he gets to look at my tail lights too. I really can't complain, it's been a good one.
Only thing I regret is I bought it new in '06 when the cherces were either the 400 single cylinder or the 800 and I didn't need the size or want the payments of the 800.
Following damn year they introduce the 500 & 650. Ultimate slap in the face was they dropped MSRP on the 400 and made MSRP on the 500 FI V-Twin the same price as my 400 was the year earlier!!!

and now that we've taken this thread WAY off course...

Yeah i def like my vinson but my next one will be a big bore v-twin. If suzuki ever came out with one id def buy but it looks like a brute will be my next purchase. Back to the topic of programmer or efan. I will eventually have both and with gas prices now id like to be able to squeeze out a few more mpg. Im only getting 11 right now and mostly highway.
