Default Cost to install Viper 5901 Remote start security system

I'm planning on getting the Viper 5901 online but I want Best Buy to install it. Was wondering if anybody could tell me how much they spent on installing there's.

Thanks

I installed my own but if you are not good with wiring and know what wires to use and how/where to find them then I do not suggest this. However, I have a brand new shock sensor, back up battery and time pulse relay that I will sell you all checp if you want. I was going to use them but never did.

How much for the 5901 installed at BB?

Used a guy through CL. $140 to install my Viper 5902 and voice module. Also hooked up the aux channels to pop the doors. In and out of his garage in less than 4 hours and its been 100% for over a year.

How much did BB quote?

I have a buddy that says he can do it but I keep hearing about bypass modules and a bitwriter. Is there a way to do the programming without the bitwriter? And do I need the shock sensors for the alarm to even work? I know nothing about this whole remote start security system thing I'm just good at making her look good. Any advice would help. Thanks.

I did not need a bitwritter for mine although I do have a buddy who has one in case I needed it. I just watched a bypass module on ebay and it didnt sell and had no reserve. You only need that though if you have a chipped key. The shock sensors are not needed to make the alarm work. You still have other basic protection like hood pins and opening of the doors

if you have the gray key your gonna need the bypass module, cuz when i went to BB they explained it to me...other than that i got my Viper 5901 installed over a year ago and its still running strong

This is not for a novice to do. There are 3 ignition wires and 3 acc wires to power up. Each door has it's own circuit to diode isolate so you don't get any false alarms.

Shock sensor is just a plug in piece.

Keyless entry is a one wire setup that needs to see two voltages through a positive trigger using relays. One voltage is 330 ohm resistor and the other is 880 ohm if memory serves me correct. It has been a few years since I have done any installs on a Ram.

So if you are not comfortable making solid connections, diodes, relays and resistors, go for it.

For some reason, I think to make the parking lights come on with the system, you need to use a relay for that too and open the circuit so you don't blow up the head light switch.

As for programming, using the bit writer just opens up some other menus, but you certainly don't need it.

If you have a grey key, it is chipped and you can use a spare key if you have one, or if you have two keys, I can tell you how to program a new one. You can use a DEI 555c or a 555U bypass module. I prefer the U myself with a key in the box.

Just for reference, I would charge 250 to install it, but here is a quick text of the wires and locations.

12V|pnk/blk & red/wht |+ |ignition harness |
STARTER|yellow |+ |ignition harness |
IGNITION|blue (16 awg) |+ |ignition harness |
SECOND IGNITION|red or red/wht |+ |ignition harness |
ACCESSORY|green & orange |+ |ignition harness |
SECOND ACCESSORY|blue & blk/wht *7 |+ |ignition harness |
POWER LOCK|white/green *1 |- |driver kick panel |
POWER UNLOCK|same wire | | |
LOCK MOTOR|tan/pnk or tan/blk | |driver kick panel |
UNLOCK MOTOR|blue | |driver kick panel |
DISARM DEFEAT|tan/white | |passenger kick panel |
PARKING LIGHTS +|black/yellow | |relay under hood at pwr ctr |
PARKING LIGHTS -|purple/yellow *2 | |headlight switch |
HEADLIGHTS|purple/yellow *2 |- |headlight switch |
DOOR TRIGGER|*3 |- |*3 |
DOME SUPERVISION|use door trigger
FCTRY ALARM ARM|lt green/orange *4 |- |driver kick panel |
FCTRY ALRM DISARM|same wire
DISARM NO UNLOCK|same wire
TACHOMETER|NOT green/orange | |ign coil, coil pac, injector|
SPEED SENSE|white/orange | |conn. 2, pin 27 @ PCM *5 |
BRAKE WIRE|white/tan |+ |brake pedal switch |
HORN TRIGGER|black/red |- |steering column

NOTE: For the 2002 Ram 2500/3500, refer to the 2001 techsoft sheet. NOTE: Chrysler vehicles that use a gray ignition key have an immobilizer system that needs to be bypassed when remote starting. Use DEI part number 555C or 555U. *1 Lock requires a negative trigger thru a 820 ohm resistor. Unlock requires a negative trigger thru a 330 ohm resistor. MUST use relays. *2 Parking lights require a negative trigger thru a 330 or 1.4K ohm resistor. Headlights require a negative trigger thru a 1.8K ohm resistor. There is a rest resistance on the wire, so MUST use a relay to isolate away from the switch. *3 The LF door trigger is tan, and the LR door is tan/orange. These wires are in the driver kick panel. The RF door trigger is tan/red, and the RR door is tan/yellow. These wires are in the passenger kick panel. Use all wires and diode isolate each. See directfax document #1076 for wiring information. *4 This will also do door locks. Arm/lock is negative trigger thru a 2K ohm resistor. Disarm/unlock is negative trigger thru a 480 ohm resistor. Single pulse will do disarm without unlocking the doors. Unlock requires a double pulse. MUST use relays. *5 The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) is on the passenger side firewall. *6 The amplifier is located behind the glove box. *7 These wires may not be necessary for remote start.

Ok my buddy is finally getting to install my system but we need to know do I need to get a relay for the Remote start? Were lost and we need help. And do I need a relay for the door triggers? For some reason it says my doors are still open when I know there closed. If anybody can help us it would be awesome. I don't need a bypass module. And my lights won't work either. HELP PLEASE.
