Default A Dim Idea

I installed a trans temp gauge and hooked the wiring to the dimmer circuit wire as suggested in several theads, yet the light will not dim with the instrument cluster. Any ideas?

Thanks

Perhaps it is wired to the wrong side of the switch. It is probably wired to the power in and not power out.

The gauge light turns on and off with the dash lights, it just won't dim. I probed the wiring from the switch and found the orange/brown wire (accually there is two of them) and tapped into the one where the voltage changes as you rotate the dimmer control, yet the gauge light doesn't dim. It's an L.E.D light, could that be the issue? It shines brighter than the dash and is a bit distracting.

I don't think you will get the dimming effect with an LED, see if you can replace the light with a regular one. LED's require very little power to turn on so with the dimmer at the lowest setting would probably be enough power to have it at full light.

I was wondering if it was an LED also?

Unfortunately the light is internal and can't be changed. I'm not up for replacing it, I'm on my second one now. The first was defective, an Auto Meter #4949, I replaced it with the Dodge matching one from Auto Meter. Oh by the way, Auto Meter is refusing to give me a refund for the defective one so I've spent my last dime with them!

Thanks to all for the info.

I don't think I have ever dimmed my dash lights since I bought the truck in 08.
