The dealer has changed my oil every 3K for the last 3yrs/51K miles. Never had a Mopar oil filter issue. I guess they may be thin walled and sitting for several months with salt on it and the moisture from changing weather could cause it to rust thru, but I also think perhaps it was hit with something that caused a weak spot in it.
