Default Engine Mods in cold climate (e-fan, 180 stat, etc)

Hey, I live in Northern Ontario up in Canada, running a 04 4.7 1500 QC. I've already got a CAI and a cat back with a Superchip on order, but I want to keep going with some more mods, ie. e-fan, 180 stat, headers and possibly cams. My question is about the cold weather up here (easy to see lows of -40), how is this going to effect my mods? I've read a few posts against a 180 stat, but nothing concrete? Thanks in advance for your input, this forum is my number 1 source of good info!

The efan shouldn't be an issue if you use a controller. It will stay off until engine temps dictate it should turn on.

The 180* t-stat may cause issues, both heating the cab and with possible oil sludge issues due to not burning off normal condensation, especially if you take frequent short trips.

Some guys in northern climates swap the 180* out for their stocker come cooler weather and go back in the spring, although with the Hemi, it's right up top and about a 5 minute swap, with the 4.7 - not so much...

Thanks Hammer, I didn't realize the 4.7 stat was hard to get at. I guess I misunderstood the E-fan setup as well, if I don't get a controller it's just on/off on a switch I guess?

Also, no other future mod I should be wary of doing because of the cold weather?

The only thing I have read that dont work well in cold climates is shorty wires.

You do need the controller for the fan unless you want to use a switch like you said but I would NOT recommend that. Forgetfulness sometimes sets in and by the time you realize it, you could be running hot already.

You can pick up a decent fan controller with probe at Autozone for about $35. Bear had to get one when he broke his probe off on his Flex-a-Lite kit and low and behold it was THE SAME controller he got with his kit...

Right on, I hadn't planned on changing those anyway, thanks Weed. I'm looking at Moe's, do I need a full on variable speed control module kit, or is just the adjustable fan controller enough?

The adjustable one is the one came with my 180 Extreme kit (which I also got from Moe's, but it was $265 when I bought it about five and a half years ago). Been workin' fine since the day I installed it...
