My question I have now is what have you guys experienced for fuel economy while hauling trailers? Because of the MDS needing to be turned off to tow I'm going to assume that my mileage will drop to around 450km's (280mi) per tank.

What I'm looking to haul is a 25 foot Trail Lite travel trailer that weighs about 5,000lbs. My main reason to ask this is that the wife and I are planning a road trip and I just calculated out that we'll be driving around 6,300km's so I want to know if the price of gas at about $3.80/gallon is going to bankrupt me.

My specs are:
2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie
5.7L Hemi
Quad Cab
20" rims
3.92 axle ratio

Thanks guys.
700 km's to a tank?!? I'm lucky to pull 450 driving like a grandpa!! And yes, my truck is very well maintained. I'm wondering if it's time to swap out the EGR valve...

Probably what will help you the most is the 3.92 gear set

Well that's 700km per tank doing all highway at about 90km/h, but my usual average is about 625-650km doing mostly highway and a little bit of in town driving. I try my best to keep my foot out of it, but every now and then some rice rocket pulls up beside me and my Hemi wants a piece. So I oblige.

That's still pretty impressive.

I used to tow our 25ft toy hauler fully loaded with mx bikes and water etc with my hemi, now use a 7.3 diesel but the hemi pulled it pretty good. Going up hills such as the I15 cajon pass in socal the mpg's dropped down to 3mpg up the hill at 4500 rpm if i remember. Power wise the hemi is do able but the cost of gas is just a joke. That hill i would max out at 45-50mph in the trucks operating range but the 7.3 we have thats chipped and everything will tow the same hill at 70mph and the fuel needle doesn't even move.
