Have someone with a 2008 dodge Ram 1500, manual, v8. I got them a nice CAI for xmas and since driving there and back last xmas, I noticed that the Front head lights are crappy at night. Specially in bad weather, just not enough light. I'm used to HIDs on my car and love them. Not sure where to get HID kits for this truck. Also looking at possible fog lights as well as this truck didn't come with them and would like to get them in HID if possible. I presume the fogs will require the full housings. Just the louvered plastic inserts are in place at the moment.

Are these easy DIY or moderate DIY installations?

Please let me know where I can get the best fronts and fogs kits online as someones birthday is this weekend.

Ok just found some.
I just ordered high and low kit for the fronts, chrome fog assy kit and the 5000k HID kit for the fogs. This should keep birthday boy busy for a while.

 

Got my 8K Bi-Xenon heads and 8K fogs from Unique Coatings.
Still going great after 2 and a half years within the Sonoran elements.

 

Where'd you get them from?

 

I got the high and lows, Fog light assy and HID fog kit at carid.com. All for about $300. Been told I should get projectors however they said they are not needed unless your noticing other drivers flashing you alot due to brightness or state policy says so. Going to try with out at first and see.

 

With the stock housing and the scatter i had a few flash at me when i first installed them. Adjusted them down a bit and all is good ever since.

 

Are there level adjustments for the stock housings?

 

Yes there are. My 04 were only vertical though.
Should be in the manual.

 

Not sure about the 08s but I think just about all stock halogen bulb headlights have two adjuster screws that move the entire assembly up/down and left/right. The problem with some retrofit kits that use the existing bulb housing designed for halogen bulbs and install HID bulbs is the beam pattern won't ever be as efficient as HID is designed and more distracting for other drivers due to more glare and scattered light. The better kits are the more expensive ones and are less likely to cause issues of flickering and other safety concerns. Make sure the kit is 100% US legal and conforms to DOT specs. Also in the main 3rd gen page there is a sticky post at the top for all things HID.

I don't have HIDs yet but I have been doing lots and lots of research about them.

 

Ive had Flash Tech kits for a couple years now and never any issues with bulbs or ballasts. I have had to replace the harness 2x and the relay 1x
