Default Remote Starters

I've been advised by my wife that she will not tollerate another winter of -40C without a remote starter.. I feel 1 winter is fair enough.

What do you guys recomend for starters? I spoke with the local dealer and he said to NOT go with a Dodge unit because they suck so much. Any brands to avoid?

It seems thats par for the course now. I've tentatively decided on a compustar which with a small addon, and yearly subscribtion, you can control it with your iphone. It's not a huge priority for me.. The Compustar is bragging about ranges in excess of 1000ft.. I only have a 30 ft distance to wear my truck is usually parked, so honestly, it's more than I'll need.

Any feedback on the compustar?

Btw, Viper is my backup decision if there's anything I do not like about compustar.

Wait? what!, you mean the dealership up there was actually honest and said not to use one of their own overpriced products?!? wow.

I've been doing some research on the viper systems and they look pretty good and seem popular.

You've got a diesel right? I wonder if that would require the remote starter be made specifically for diesels?

Just got my wife a compustar for her escape. it is pretty nice, has lots of features and optional add on's. she has had it for a couple weeks now and likes it a lot. I got her the 2 way model that has a 3000' range. It has a little remote with LCD display that will show you if the vehicle is locked or unlocked, tell you if the vechile is running, the timer for the remote start, vehicle temp, batt voltage, and more.

As far as needing a diesel specific model, most mid level starters and up have the necessary features built in to work with diesel's (turbo timer etc)

I think here before it gets too cold i will get a matching system installed on my ram so i don't have to go out to a cold truck after work

AST Ultrastart. Local Stereo shops around me use them and I've bought them for everyone of my own cars(except my truck)
You can buy them on Ebay for $60shipped
They range from 1500-2800ft. Most are 2800ft for just remote starts, the alarm combo's are reduced to 1500ft??? Eitherway, phenominal range compared to factory 50ft range...lol

you can't beat Compustar man. Viper makes good products as well but on the market now Compustar is probably the best.
