Default 2003 4.7l rear end and programmer question

Brief history on the question. Just found out.. according to the sticker in the glove box.. that my ram has a 5spd auto tranny with 3.92 rear end. The truck, albeit a great truck, lacks in the horsepower dept bad. Was thinking about upgrading to 4.11 rear end untill I found out it had 3.92. Now im thinking I need bigger than 4.11. So my question is what are my choices for a bigger rear end than a 4.11 if any? And would a programmer promising 20 more hp be worth the $300 price tag considering none of them will allow you to adjust transmission shifts? Does anyone else have an 03 with a prog? Is it worth it?

Is this truck a QC? 4x4? Is it lifted? How big are your tires? Are you running the heavy 20" wheels? Lot of factors to consider before recommending gears.

A tuner is a nice option, but if you think that truck lacks power, what a tuner is gonna give you ain't exactly gonna snap your head back.

Personally, I think the 4.7 has good power, even in a QC 4x4 as long as it's running 17s with stock or near stock size tires. I had a Z71, extended cab with the 5.3 V8 and I know the 4.7 moves the Ram better. I'm thinking you may have a tune-up/maintenance issue if you think it lacks *****, or you are used to the acceleration of a car which in many cases weighs less than half what a Ram weighs. When's the last you cleaned the throttle body? PCV? Did plugs & wires?

Consider yourself lucky to have the 3.92s though, not a lot of '02 4.7s came with them...

4x4 quad cab with 33in bfg mud terrains. Not lifted however it does sit higher than any other non lifted dodge I've seen. But no sign of lift kit on front or back. Recently tuned up with e3 plugs and I installed a cai about 2 years ago. flowmaster 60 series with a turn down about 3 ft past the cat. Engine is peppy and runs very very smoothe. But every time it sees any kind of incline it downshifts. I pull a trailor weighing about 2000lbs from time to time and it feels like im pulling a house. Truck only has 80,000 miles and dosent smoke or use oil so Im about 99% sure the engine is still in shape considering how smothely it runs.

Left some answers out lol my bad. It dosnt have plug wires. The coil pack plugs directly into a piece that presses onto the plug. With a coil pack for each plug. Tb is clean last time I inspected it.

****. And the wheels are the stock 17in wneels. About to get steel wheels for it. As im shure theyre lighter than the 'cast aluminum?' Wheels Probably wont make any difference on power but black wheels would look sweeeet lol

Re-gearing will give you the most band and stop that tranny "searching". You are right on the border tire size between 4.10 and 4.56s, but with 3.92s you won't see much going to 4.10s.

4.56s will yield a lot better launch and it'll pull hills and haul better, plus get significant better MPGs in town. Might lose 1 mpg on the interstates, but that would be the only downside...

Next tune up ditch the E3's and go with NGK V power plugs. Won't help with the tranny searching but look into a power wire, and you might be able to do the TMR delete on yours but you need to look into it.

I agree hammer. I think ill get more mpg as well. The truck just lugs around everywhere it goes in high gear. You put a trailor brhind it and you best not be in a hurry haha. And yea mullet the e3 plugs are a joke. I haven't noticed any diffrence in mpgs or power. Is the power wire from airram compatible with a programmer? The whole idea behind the power wire is to adjust the timing and maybe shoot more fuel. But the programmer is suppose to tweak all that to the 'optimal' setting. And what is TMR?
