Default MDS really does SUCK

Lots of people on here dont like MDS and I never understood why, NOW I do. First I sold my K&N intake because of the stupid POPPING noise whenever MDS kicked in, then after I bought the SUPERCHIPS, I thought my 5th gear was messed up because I felt a weird THUMP after it shifted into 5th but then quickly found out, it was the MDS kicking in, just a week ago, I decide to turn MDS off. Im always in PERFORMANCE mode using 93 btw but now I decide to disable MDS and WOW, everything is good. MPG's went UP, no more thump into 5th and no more blaming other things when it was MDS that was the problem all along. Seriously, turning MDS OFF will give you better MPG and ive been using star tron for about a month and ive noticed the different, getting about 16.5 MPG average and about 18mpg highway

<sigh>It's amazing how something nearly transparent can get blamed for so much. It's like "the bomb" in the fifties. Everything bad that happened was blamed on the bomb.

I don't doubt it at all, I'm usually around 16.5 to 16.8 on the highway and my truck weighs a sh*tload more than most on here and is on 35" tires...

I also noticed better economy around town with the MDS off and performance tune. On my second tank of star tron now so hope that helps too. I do turn MDS on if I take a long highway trip. I have gotten 20 MPG driving 65 MPH with it.

There's an ongoing thread in the 2nd Gen section (general discusson sub-section) and most guys with the older Magnum engines are seeing the same results with Star Tron as I am, maybe a tad better...

I think if you have bigger tires, that MPGs go down even more with MDS on?

I would say so, it's a b*tch to turn big meats with four cylinders. I have a good buddy with an old Tacoma 4 banger running 38" meats and he gets SEVEN mpg with the thing. Thank goodness his is by no means his daily driver...

Oh, I know. I get roughly 18 mpg on the highway, too. I was referencing a thread from a week or so ago where I was outright called a liar when I listed the (minimal) mods to my truck and the fact that I got 18 mpg on long highway runs, by someone who claimed their box-stock same truck only got 12 mpg.

Sarcastic humor, is all.
